Default Kidney stone surgery

Heading to surgery this morning to finally have it taken out.

I know it's routine but wish me luck.

I forget the name of the procedure but they told me it's coming out.

The stint needs to stay in for a another week just to make sure everything is cleared out.

Sounds like they are just going to retrieve it with a basket. Sometimes if a stone is too large for that, they will break it up with a laser or sound waves. The stent is no big deal. Best wishes and get well soon.

I passed the 2 mm stone on my own, wasn't to bad.

But this 5-6 mm just hurts like hell.

Nothing to eat or drink after midnight so I'm starving right now.

DR B, speak for yourself. I had one inside my urethra/ureter (spelling) for nearly 2 months before they took it out and driving in a car, you could feel every ounce of gravel on the road, if I moved quickly it was like a stabbing sensation.

My ureter was too narrow so they lasered the stone (1cm-1.5cm diameter) and kept the stent in for that period, I didn't realise that the bloody thing was metal and 10-12 inches long.

I work in the Health Service over here so I knew the Urologist who was doing the Surgery and I think he left the stent in for that long for badness cos he retired after me, I was his last flick of the laser.

OOOHHH no. I dealt with a 15mm kidney stone for 1 year. Went through the laser several times and finally the surgery. The absolute worst part was the stint. In fact when I had the surgery I refused to let them put the stint back in and I was fine. Maybe it's a female thing.

Anyway, be thinking of you Adam, you'll be fine.
