Default OT- recording of my band for a festival promo

http://www.soundclick.com/player/sin...ongID=10151390

Have to send 3 recording to this promoter in mountain view calif to play this festival they have each yr. Sort of a rookie at this and my equipment is only average. Had help with the drums and did the rest in my living room on Cubase.

What do you guys think?

that sounds ****in great man! Nicely done...you're on a sax right?
Sounds cd quality to me, nothing overpowering anything else, great clarity, I think the promoter'll dig it

Thanks. Yes I am on sax. I think it's not quite CD quality but I did master it just with the basics to try and get it even. The hard part will be getting the other 2 to mix at the same level but a friend of mine is helping me.

Getting the parts to sound even is the toughest part. So hard to get it to lose that live unbalanced sound feel.

I met a really good Bari player at the NAMM convention last weekend. If I can get some bigger better playing gigs I may add some low end and then i think we would be killing it. Funny this kid I met is the son of a man i bought my first sax off of in 1984. Still have that horn and play it often. This kid a great player though. I am never ceased to be amazed at how good some of these kids get.

There was this 16 yr old jazz phenom bopping around on some horns at the convention made me not even want to play next to him. Makes you feel silly when some kid smokes you and you have been playing longer then he has been alive.

It's not on the same scale but I can only imagine what composers must have thought when they heard and saw Motzart, and the jealousy they must have felt towards him.

Love me some Namm ... Been to many.

I've sang and written lyrics for bands since I was 19 , only "job" I have ever had and I played sax in school so I just love anything with one...

Even campy (to some) stuff like Eddie Money and Chicago ... But I just like the horns.

It won't play on my iPod cut.... I'm sure if it's anything like your football takes it's terrible. Is there anywhere I can hear it that will play on an iPod?

Not sure orangeandblue. It's just an MP3 uploaded to the soundclick page. We have a webpage www.boxcar7.com that has this recording and some others on it. But I dont see how that would work on an ipod either.

I don't like this type of music, but sounds pretty good other than that.

Sounds good.

Alot of getting that "loose", "live" sound that you wanted is getting the right room to record your drums, vocals, and guitars in. Some people can work with that in mixing with the right reverb.

Have you tried using Logic software? Its my favorite...intuitive and easy to use with some nice features.

Yeah I try and go 2 days every year. I think next year there is a really good chance we will get to play the Hilton after party fri or sat night.

Hey Cut, my wife's friend's parents do a jam session on the Friday night of NAMM. They live in a sweet old 1910 house and have a separate garage. These old guys (and a few youngins to sprinkle in the non gray beards) were playing for hours and switching off. Maybe hit me up next year and see if they need a horn player to complete the sound. Great harmonica player by the name of Jesse played too. BTW, sounded fine to me. Thought some 50s or ska was going to be appearing than I heard the voice.

The horn line on that is taken from an old horace silver jazz tune. Picture that same riff literally twice as fast. So smokin fast its like punk rock jazz.

Somehow Albert King decided to lift it and stick it on one of his tunes. One of my all time favorite blues tunes because it has that old school jazz feel to it. For sure a toe tapper. We only play about 2-3 slow songs because we figure people want to dance or at least tap there feet while they party.

Thanks for all the good responses.

The e-guitar on the right is the only instrument that sounds a bit out of place in terms of sounding "live." The other sounds/vocals are fine as is.

Try messing with the guitar in the EQ. Give it a bass boost, etc to bring it more into the mix. It may be how it was recorded though that proves to be an issue.

Sounds really good dude. Did you guys write that or is that a cover?

I'm getting a home setup and can't decide on what synth to go with. Any advice?

Synth is pretty broad. What kind of music do you want to make...should probably make that it's own topic so this isn't derailed, lol.
