Adopt-a-Bronco:
VP John Elway
Default Fox 2nd Interview on 87.7 The Ticket - 1/17

John Fox was on Denver's Sports Station again today:

• Not ready to name DC, getting closer on that. Will have something to announce soon, everybody will be excited.
• Knows McCoy better than anyone in Bronco Land based on their 7 years together. He’s a good coach familiar with the current offense as well as the west coast offense. That blend is the trend in the league right now. Tried to hire Nunnely to his staff in Carolina, he’s one of the better coaches in the league. Clancy Barone did a good job with the OL last year, moving him back to TE. Was an outstanding coach in Atlanta who Fox coached against.
• Would like to have that franchise QB, there aren’t many and they’re hard to find. As a coach, have to take the talent you have and putting them in the best positions to use their abilities – developing your gameplan around them. If you don’t want to put the game in your QBs hands for ¾ of the plays then you look in other ways. In Carolina averaged, 10 wins without an elite QB – not a slam on Jake Delhomme but those are just the facts.
• Doesn’t think this defense is a lost cause. Talked about jumping Carolina’s defense from 31st to 2nd when he took that job only adding two guys – Julius Peppers and Will Witherspoon. Not starting from scratch, but have work to do.
• Right now, hoping to finish the staff and go to the Senior Bowl to get to know the scouts and personnel department while evaluating the talent. Will come back the 26th and begin evaluating current personnel.
• Took bits and pieces from everywhere he coached –sometimes ownership, personnel, coaches and players. Chuck Knoll had a real impact on him.
• During interview process, didn’t have a lot of tape but some film during the stretch especially the Houston game. Way he brought the team back, showing those intangibles was really something. Obviously he’s young and has a lot of room to grow but he’ll be ready to work.
• Doesn’t want to get into competition between the QBs, has respect for all three. Too early to say other than he feels good about all three.
• Wasn’t hard to be sold on the Broncos, always admired from a far. John Elway will infuse energy to the fanbase. Game is only fun when you win – excited because it’s a football town. One of the best cities in the NFL.

Fox seems confident in himself. I like that he isn't going to changes things just so that he can call it his own, but build upon who and what is working and change just what needs to be changed.

Eh....he was probably in college snorting coke or something. Incidentally, Coach Fox looks like he's had a few turkey sandwiches. I wonder if he's bought that condo in Cabo yet.

On a related note, Glazer tweeted Mora is flying into town.

Little worried that he said this D was not a lost cause. I hope he meant to say all but a few players are a lost cause.

He will be more a beach house type.

BTW Saw Shanny the other day and he says Snyder is a red ass flaming butt hole. Said he was forced to accept McNabb. He wanted to keep Campbell, said he liked him in College. He's looking for a loophole in his contract. Here's the part you won't like said he wished he had talked to Cutler before he drafted him, said he would have passed on him if he had bothered to have even a 10 minute conversation with him.

Obviously Shanny was speaking in jest while munching on some good turkey. It's clear Shanny knows and respects Jay's inherent greatness. IMO, I wouldnt be surprised if Shanny is the one who gives Jay's introductory speech in Canton. 35 years from now, I'll be able to tell my grandkids that we had them both on our team....at the same time and were on the precipice of the second golden era of Broncos football. Unfortunately, Camelot was destroyed in its infancy by he who shall not be named.

Snyder crammed Patrick Ramsey down Spurrier's throat, too. Guy's a Heisman winning quarterback and Snyder wouldn't let him try to get a quarterback he felt solid about.

Way to go out on a limb there, bro. We're more talented than the worst team in NFL history!

with the way some of you talk on here, you would think this team went 0-16 and is about that talent level...

I think the most curious aspect about Fox's interviews so far (and he's repeated this across all the interviews he's done) is his belief that the defense isn't a lost cause and it isn't a rebuilding job.

Usually it's in the best interests of a new coach/staff to downplay that because Fox is only putting pressure on himself to get this defense turned around next season because of what he's saying now about the talent level there.

Kind of opposite of what the GM came out and said out about Shanny's last defense having so many players that are out of the league now early this season.

Makes me believe Fox really took the job believing that he can improve this defense sooner rather than later. And I can't disagree with him on that. The sheer number of missed tackles, messed up coverages and mis aligned defenses was embaressing to watch and was really basic stuff.
