Default Sal Sunseri For D-line coach?

Could mean Marcel Dareus with the #2 pick.

Could also mean we are staying with a 3-4.

I'm going to be seriously disappointed if we don't go with the 4-3. That's what Fox's teams are known for. If we stick with the 3-4 we are going to be much more reliant on a getting a great DC, and I'm not sure there are any to be had at the moment. Honestly it just doesn't make any sense. There isn't anything worth going out of our way to save with this garbage defense.

And Dareus at #2 would be an epic reach.

Didn't take very long for Fox to get to work.

He was Carolina's D-line coach for a number of years, running the 4-3

Ah...good to know. I suppose there's quite a bit of technique crossover anyway.

Hey, if Fox can get Nick Saban to run the defense and has to bring Sal along, so be it.

He also saw Nick Fairley against his team and the havoc he could bring.

I don't think he'd mind coaching him over one of his own players.

You don't really think a defensive guy who's been in the league as long as Fox doesn't know how to do a 3-4 well do you? We'll be fine if we stay with it.

Sunseri has a six year history of coaching a 4-3 D Line with Fox. Fox is the guy the Broncos just hired as head coach in case you didn't know that as well.

Hint: Sunseri under Saban has been on a coaching staff running a very successful 3-4 at Alabama.

From checking the draft value chart, we could possibly trade down to say #4 or 5, still get a top pick like Dareus, and pick up a 2nd and 3rd on top of it.

Reportedly Fairley is going to announce he's coming out for the draft today.

I know! Didn't we have this discussion last year? Defensive coordinators know how to run both and most defenses aren't 100 percent either way anyway.

No I don't. Just like I don't think Shanny could run a spread option offense well, or a power I. Could he run them? Sure. Well? No.

In general it doesn't make sense to hire a coach that is an expert in one thing so he can do something completely different. Unless you like taking the long odds just for the hell of it.

Yes this was revealed after my post, and I acknowledged it. I didn't know the guy's background, so it wasn't something I was aware of.

Huh? Very few dedicated 4-3 defenses ever run 3-4 packages (the opposite is not quite so true). Most 4-3 coaches have only a theoretical knowledge of 3-4's and would struggle mightily replicating equal results without a few years entrenched in the system. This is silly.
