Default Does interviewing the coach who led his team to worst record in the NFL make any sense?

Does it? Should John Fox even be on our list? To hear Carolina Panther fan speak, he is the worst coach in the NFL.

Wait, he DID have the worst record in the NFL.

You can't go from 2-14 to another job, can you?

Depends who you believe. Fox has had success in the past, and the word was that Carolina wanted to go with a youth movement and he wasn't so into that concept.

I'm fine with bringing him in as long as we've got some real offensive gurus staffing out that side of the ball.

We could do much worse than Fox, imo.

Even great coaches have bad seasons. Sometimes franchises just have to go through it.

way to ignore the entire body of work he had at carolina. i dont want him as HC because his teams are basically boring to watch, but doesnt change the fact that hes a qualified guy to lead a team.

His body of work there was decent though. 1 Super bowl appearence. Not my first choice but He's a decent coach and will get a hc job again.

Im nkt sure if he called the shots in regards to personel. But that is what let them down the last few years. Team just lost talent it seemed.

Tebow will take care of that.

I understand the concern but you also have to look at what he was given to use. The owner who wants to fix the CBA that he convinced the owners to agree to has dumped salary and talent in lieu of the coming lockout.

I don't think he is the best candidate but there are worse out there.

Sure. Because your average NFL fan knows what they're talking about, right?

Fox was handicapped by a cheap owner who made it clear Fox wasn't getting a new contract. Fox was then saddled with losing one of his best players (Peppers) to FA and starting a UDFA project QB or a 2nd rounder that basically every team passed on the first time through.

Once the season started he lost a good number of his key guys to injury and next thing you know his team is in a full on tail spin.

Fox has proven himself over the years to be a VERY good defensive HC and he brings a staff that develops an excellent OL and running game. He's probably the only HC who will move us back to a 4-3 that I'd be happy with because his 4-3 kicks ass and he brings the requisite no nonsense toughness that will remove the half assed attitude this team has had since Plummer was shown the door half way through the '06 season.

The big question with Fox is who he'd bring in for OC. Keeping McCoy doesn't seem like that great of an option. We'd need to find a legit OC for him who can develop Tebow.

Jeff Fisher had a lousy year as well. I don't think there'd be any second guessing had we been able to interview him.....

So it's not good enough if they win, they need style points too?

Maybe Ben McDaniels should stick around, at least as QB coach.

John Fox is a damn good coach. The problem in Carolina was the absolute **** team they had. Anyone know how much say he had in personnel moves?

After the way Josh has been thrown under the bus by Elway and Xanders? I don't think he'll be very enthused about hanging around. Especially if Josh is getting another job right away.

didnt say that, but it doesnt hurt to have a team thats entertaining to watch. football is after all entertainment, and run run pass repeat can get boring.

I like Fox a lot better than some of the other names on our list. IMO he is on of our top three candidates. I think his overall body of work is solid.

You didn't, but you did.

Most of us wants Ws, and if they're boring as **** and go 19-0, no one is going to cry about it.

As others have mentioned his body of work was tremendous. He always put a good defense and running game on the field, even with an enept QB like Delhomme. His record this year was poor because their best players were let go, Deangelo Williams was hurt a majority of the season, and he had the worst QB situation in the NFL forced on him by ownership. Their record reflects solely on ownership, not coaching. He turned that franchise around and made them relevant - something he could possibly do here.

It also didnt help that they played in probably the best division in football this year.

Most coaches don't make it past five years. They need to move on as well as the team needs to move on.

We need a sound defensive structure and if he can provide that and give us a good 3 years so be it. He may be a rebound coach but his defenses are pretty sounds. We need to get back to about 300 points allowed on defense consistently coupled with our offense we should be in good shape. Then it comes back to drafting well

Watching KC, Charles and Berry are difference makers. Young guys that can change a game.

I can't think of any offense other than that that I would run with Jake Delhomme. Tebow >>>>> Delhomme.

A better question to ask is why is the NFL coaching profession a closed fraternity? It's a large merry-go-round with the same horses and you must be a former coach, player or member of one of the royal families to qualify. Thatís the one glass ceiling that will never be broken by an outsider.

Since we are interviewing Fox, I have some other coaches to keep in mind:

Dennis Green
Rod Marinelli

Contrast that with McD's record before he became our HC. Any problems with the theory?
