Default Big Dick Indicted for Big Bribe

Before the end of the week (12/04/10), former United States Vice President Dick Cheney will be indicted by Nigerian officials in connection with the long-running bribery investigation into Halliburton Company. According to Bloomberg News:

“Indictments will be lodged in a Nigerian court “in the next three days,” Godwin Obla, prosecuting counsel at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said in an interview today at his office in Abuja, the capital. An arrest warrant for Cheney “will be issued and transmitted through Interpol,” the world’s biggest international police organization, he said.”

Furthermore:

“Obla said charges will be filed against current and former chief executive officers of Halliburton, including Cheney, who was CEO from 1995 to 2000, and its former unit KBR Inc., based in Houston, Texas; Technip SA, Europe’s second-largest oilfield- services provider; Eni SpA, Italy’s biggest oil company; and Saipem Construction Co., a unit of Eni. Obla didn’t identify the former officials whom he said held office when the alleged bribes were paid.”

Dick Cheney to be charged in Nigeria corruption case

Former Halliburton unit pleaded guilty last year to US charges that it paid $180m in bribes to Nigerian officials.

If there's something to it, I'd love to see him brought up on charges in American courts.

F Nigerian courts thinking they can charge Americans and actually have some pull.

Let Cheney face charges there. The U.S. doesn't have jurisdiction over nigeria. If Cheney didn't want nigeria filing charges he shouldn't have been there bribing somebody. he is no differant than that girl in italy who was tried & convicted in a foriegn court.

I doubt the U.S. (or any "western" nation) has a extradition treaty with Nigeria, so he's never going to face a Nigerian Court unless he chooses to.

Even if there were a treaty, I don't see any ally nation choosing allegiance with Nigeria over us -- if only for pragmatic reasons.

Nigeria is the fifth largest supplier of oil to the U.S. They could just cut us off until Dick is extradited.

Outside of North America and Western Europe it is surprising how much bribing is required to actually do business.

Cheney's Haliburton also made a pile of $$$ doing business with Iran in the pre 2000 election time frame. The company was violating US foreign policy hand over fist -- but Cheney did not give a hoot -- it was just business.

No harm in that, right JJJ?

Of course, AFTER Cheney became VP -- he went viral on Iran. As in sociopathic.

Maybe it was something in the water...Hmmm.

Did anyone see the World Cups given to Qatar and Russia over the weekend?

The "second and third world" governance is basically all done by bribe and/or murder. In those places, people cant fight back against power-hungry financiers like George Soros...those people make the rules.

As for Nigeria filing charges on a US Citizen, how 'bout those clowns take care of the 419 scams and then start talking to us about law.

Nigeria has no jurisdiction of any American citizens do they? It's not really an indictment IMO until I see an American court that has a chance to take away his freedom or punish him.

Nigeria lol. Yeah I'm sure Cheney really afraid of a Nigerian court bring the former VP of America to a court.

I'd rather talk about dirty Waters.

Another instance of the rightards not caring about what other countries think. Oh except when it supports their moronic thinking.
