Default Did the Broncos win the SB because of Shanahan ?

Interesting theory...or was it the players around him? Did Mike win back to back SB's or was it Elway and Davis? (Just thought I'd stir up some trouble on a Tuesday! )

It was the right combination of players, coaches and a little bit of luck that all came together at the right time.

Yep. A lot of injury luck as well.

The idea behind it...is Shanahan with out #30 and #7 didn't win much in Denver...or right now isn't looking all that great in Washington.

Shanahan actually won a lot without Elway and Davis in Denver... and he's had five minutes with the Redskins.

Careful. Fan police will be here to ask how you could possibly question a legend in Denver.

But what did he do with Griese, Plummer, etc.
(For the record...I liked Mike.)

He won games. Even with Griese. He won a LOT of games with Plummer.

Now if you want to add Plummer to the question... what has Shanny done without Elway, Davis or Plummer on the roster... then you might have something.

I lay all the blame on the "Gutless Drunk". He has his critics now but the man made bold moves to assemble those key pieces/players/personnel which evolved into a dynasty! It's not working out so well right now but hey the NFL is a high risk high reward type of business.

He was the HC who ran a scheme that had the rest of the league confused, he was the major reason the Broncos won those SBs. He had good players too, some he brought in, some Bob Ferguson brought in and some Dan Reeves brought in. The fact Shanny didn't have playoff success the decade afterwards doesn't take away from his contributions in those two title years.

Oh good. Stupid found his way to a totally non-McDaniels related thread.

Glad the mods don't do anything about this. That would be too much work.

the scheme was great, but he had a team that could run it so effectively, the other team KNEW it would happen and still couldnt stop it. its not just about scheme, its about having people who can execute it.

This is such a dumb question.

If Mike Shanahan was never the head coach/GM, Denver never wins a SB. Period. He brought in the majority of the starters and the team was crap before he got there. He had them go from crap to the most wins ever over a three year span. If that doesn't answer your question, I don't know what to tell you.

He was one of a number of key figures. Take him away and they don't win those Super Bowls. At the same time, take away Elway or Davis and they don't win. Take away the O line and they don't win. If they had injuries to certain units on the D they would have struggled.

Shanahan built a great team. Without him I don't think they build that team.

Well, you are kind of a ****ty fan if you don't know what has happened in the most important years for this franchise. You are also a pretty ****ty fan if you talk bad about the people who made those years possible. Shanahan, Elway, TD, Bowlen, and many others are off limits to the bad talk. It is just how it works.

He made the playoffs a lot and got to an AFCCG.

Let's make this easy. Go find a single franchise(not even just a single coach) other than the 49ers that have had more success in the 10 years after losing their HOF QB. The 9ers had success after losing a HOF QB because they already had a second HOF QB on the bench...

after seeing our current coach, I realized how valuable Shanny is.
Without him, we would not have won SB.

mike is a very good coach, and his resume' speaks for itself. I think he gets too much credit for the wins only because if you look at those starters, alot of them were already on the roster prior to his arrival as our head . He was though, very adroit at acquiring the few missing pieces and role players we needed to get over the hump.

Having said that if just having Elway on the roster meant anything, we'd have more than two titles.

Mike can turn the Redskins around, but just like we're learning here in Denver...it takes more than a year or two to un-**** someone else's huge mess the new guy inherited.
