I sat there and watched Sam Bradford have all day to throw and hit WIDE OPEN receivers for the entire game.
I have never seen a more pathetic secondary performance. Dawkins has obviously lost any step he had last season, and he's playing hurt. Nate Jones is GOD AWFUL. Darcel "Glass" McBath can't get on the field, Perrish Cox continues to play like a rookie, and the coaches can't see that Bruton is their best option over Nate Jones. This defense is worse than 2008. The coaching is terrible. So this is what the bottom feeders feel like. **** its terrible. |

well they didn't fix inside linebacking or safety since we stunk 3 yrs ago. Dawkins was too old, the rest stink and the ILB either are journeyman or should be in a 4-3.
They need some bigger ILB who can clog up the middle of the field and some safety's who aren't slow and pathetic. |

It takes a while to turn over the whole defense, this is going to take time getting some young talent and some stability in a D coordinator, but whether Wink and his scheme are the answer is beyond me

It certainly didn't help that we couldn't get pressure in obvious passing situations, at all. In fact I would say that that contributed more to the poor showing in the pass defense that our sub-par secondary (which I don't disagree with one bit).

The problem with our run defense (which actually isn't that bad) is the Dline and safeties that can't make a play when the players get past the LBs, not the ILBs. If we get some good players in front of the LBs you will see major dividends. |

Lynch brought up a good point.
The revolving door at DC is causing issues in a number of ways but most specifically is that there is no target prototype player for each position because there is no stable defensive scheme in place. Certain schemes require certain types of players. What we have on our roster is a bunch of guys that might be better in different systems, playing in a system that isn't designed for their skillset. Dumervil fits the current system, DJ does not. DJ would be an all-pro playing Will on a 4-3 defense, but he is merely just above average as an ILB on a 3-4. We dont ahve a single down defensive lineman that truly fits our scheme (Jamal is too old folks) and our best OLBs are hurt. We need stability at the DC position and one who knows what types of players he needs to run his schemes AND the patience from the FO, Owner AND fans to get those players and build the defense. Offensively we havent had that problem becaue our last two coaches knew exactly what they wanted at each offensive position to build the team around and proceeded to go out and get them. |

We've got to show some patience with a DC and stay true to a scheme. We've got to build something, and you can't do that when you bring in a hodgepodge of players that fit a different coach's vision every single ****ing year.

I agree completely, but can you at least agree that Wink is more than likely not the guy to build around??

Defenders I would keep long term:
Joe Mays Doom - man how valuable is he, I think he alone wins us 2-3 games this year. Worth every penny - Get healthy Doom! Ayers - Doom get sacks, Ayers get pressure, but he's a heck of a run stopper as well Bannan Cox Vickerson tag & trade Champ (3rd probably) trade DJ to a 4-3 in need of a WLB (another 3rd probably) Everyone else needs to be upgraded. Looks like we're going to be high enough to get Dareus We can probably get a starting quality safety with 1 of our 2nds, but we just need talent about everywhere on defense. The lack of good defensive drafts 3-4-5 years ago has really hurt us, that is where we'd have quality starters now. Anybody we bring in is going to need a year or two to get up to NFL speed unless we get lucky on a couple of guys. |

If you look at the run defense yesterday, it's hard to blame much on the D-line.
The secondary is in shambles and I don't know if it's age, youth, coaching a combo... but TE's are just running wide ****ing open on a regular basis. To me, that stinks of a lack of preparation on everyone's part. Since when was it O.K. to just leave a tight end totally unaccounted for? Last I checked, they're allowed to catch passes. |

You have to remember, in practice during the week they're going against Daniel Graham. I'm sure they leave him that open on a regular basis without having to worry about a completion.

Probably because Wink spends too much time on the golf course working on his tan and his short game. |
