1. Impossible to tell, even the owners don't know currently. There will only be a lockout if the players do not decertify the union and go on strike, if the players decertify there will be no lockout and if a deal is reached or the players do not strike there will be no lockout.

3. No, and it would have no effect anyway.

4. Depends on when they will be drafted, being that there is a probability of a rookie wage scale in the next CBA and the only way to get around that would be to hope for the union to decertify, get drafted and sign a contract. If the union doesn't decertify, the new CBA will govern any rookie deals from 2011 draft forward.

5. Just like any other year, a player can opt out of the draft as long as the player has not signed on with any representation and the player can usually do it up till about a week after the deadline for signing up for the draft.

6. Do you mean a current NFL player or a current college player?
Current NFL players who sit out a year do not get credit for that year, so whatever their contract situation at the beginning of that year will carry over.
A current college player who sits out would probably player either in the CFL or for a canadian college or maybe Arena league, but it will hurt draft stock, no doubt about that. If the player was in the draft but did not get drafted the player can sign with any team at any time, if the player was in the draft, did get drafted but didn't sign, he is free to enter the draft again the next year.

IMO, any underclassmen takes a huge risk declaring for the draft. If January comes around and we still don't have a new CBA, I'd stay in school.
Sure, there will be a draft, but you probably won't get signed a contract this year, so you'll have no income.

No, thinking about the college players, if they declare and then there is a lock-out. It wouldn't do some of these kids any good to sit out a year, some could of these kids could get into a lot of trouble or out of playing shape.

It would be great for college football if some return for their senior year.....just saying.

Yes, because I don't believe a lockout becomes official until the season starts.

They can but if they hire an agent they can't go back to college if there is a lockout.

See above, I was always under the impression they couldn't.

If there is no football because of a labor dispute it could set back attendance for yrs. They better figure out a compromise or the fans may not all come back.

I already watch as much Lakers basketball as I do football and go to more games because they are in my city. This was first yr in a while I said no thanks to watching Broncos get destroyed in SD. Especially since there fans remind me of Raider fans now when you go to the games in SD.

If there is a work stoppage, with broncos being unwatchable anyways, who even cares really? Maybe just whole thing falling apart, union decertifies, all the players become FA would be best thing for Broncos. They don't have but 4-5 players worth keeping anyways.

Sorta...the UFL is betting it's entire existance on a lockout.

IMHO, the way things look right now, I think a lock out in 2011 is virtually certain.

Not much more problematic than the other NFL players sitting out for a year. Might even less problematic since many of them won't have a lot of money to throw around.

Yes, but it won’t be business as usual for the teams or for the players they select. With no CBA in place, teams won’t be able to sign players, and those post-draft minicamps will be non-existent. I think the key here is to try to work something out by the CBA deadline of March 3rd 2011.
The owners want the players to take an 18% pay-cut.
The players representative would have an uphill battle against the NFL mights.
The league makes enough money from TV revenues
The NFL has leverage here, even if no games are played in 2011 they will still get over $5 billion in TV deals

So this could turn ugly. The sooner they could resolve this is -in my opinion- would be by late May to be able to save the season.
Now, this is the NFL wanting more money, but I think the owners could also stand to lose their share of cash by yje possible lockout.

One may argue that the players make a lot of money and 18% may be ok amongst millionaire players...

The wild card is still the union decertifying, if that happens there can be no lockout and in that case any restriction on free agents or draft would lead to an anti-trust lawsuit against the owners as any league wide agreement could be seen as collussion.

Given the time scale of the American needle case, an antitrust case by the players would at least take 4 years to be heard at all levels of court applicable.

A decertification would mean wild times in the league, no salary cap, no minimun salary and crucially, no max roster size, at least those things would definitely constitute collusion.

Oh really? As of now over half the teams have voted to decertify the union. If they do that guess what? If the owners lock them out.....every player becomes a FA. Yep that is right it would be starting from square one with every player a FA. I don't think the owners will lock out if all the players vote to decertify. No way teams like GB, NE, Indy, etc let players like Brady, Manning, Rodgers hit the market.

Almost all have. Really it's the smart move for them. It forced the owners to not lock them out.
