Default I need a new electric griddle

To make pancakes. The "Presto" brand is crap. Thin heating surface with uneven heating elements makes for striped pancakes. Anyone have a good electric griddle that is heavy and heats evenly? All recommendations welcome except for "Presto" crap pancake ruiner.

A solid, good quality, 10" cast iron pan. Nothing beats it.

I got a good one from Kohls. Way too lazy to look up the brand.

I believe Cook's Illustrated had the Broilking Professional as their number 1. I have no personal experience with it. I use a presto. It has the problems you mentioned but works well enough for me making many pancakes at once. It's mostly the center of the grill which gives me problems. If you find one that meets your standards be sure and let us know.

On an unrelated note, is anyone else experiencing very slow loading from the mane today?

I always buy the cheapos and do just fine. I usually pick em up at Wal-Mart, or buy from outlet mall kitchen stores.

I just made the kids a heaping pile of chocolate chip pancakes this weekend! I guess I haven't ever picked one that was so cheap that it put stripes on the cakes - that's pretty bad. However, I don't think you need anything from Williams-Sonoma either...

I saw that and it's $200. I like pancakes, but come on. I need it because I'm going to be making pancakes for my in law's extended family and a single well seasoned cast iron skillet is not going to cut it unless they all eat in waves of 3 at a time and I make pancakes for two and a half hours. I am not doing that.

And my load time is fine.

There are cast iron griddles too (http://www.lodgemfg.com/Logic-griddles.asp). Don't know that they'd work well on anything but a gas stove top however. Even then I think you'll find the middle to cook cooler than the ends - that was my experience. It also takes more experience to regulate the heat on it.

Buy a stove with the griddle in the middle. Works great and you can do six at a time.

Buy a new house with griddle floors, so you can just cook pancakes everywhere all the time.

That would work great if I weren't going to their house to do pancakes for 13+ people. I'm not getting in-laws a new stove so I can cook them pancakes once.
