Hickenlooper: Colorado Can Be 'Backwards Thinking'

DENVER (AP) ― Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper said during a 2009 interview that some Coloradans are guilty of the same "backwards thinking" that led to the 1998 slaying of gay college student Matthew Shepard in Wyoming.

Hickenlooper's campaign defended his comments Friday, saying that he "was making the point that the kind of intolerance that led to Matthew Shepard's murder is not unique to a single community in Wyoming."

National Review Online on Friday posted a transcript of Hickenlooper's remarks. They happened during an interview about the decision to locate the Matthew Shepard foundation in Denver.

Shepard died after being found beaten and left tied to a fence outside Laramie, Wyo. Police said Shepard was targeted because he was gay.

Many liberals love to pretend to worry about "gay rights" but they only do it because they see it as being opposite of the religious since as one can see with these forums, lefties like to go around calling people they don't agree with "gay" and "homo" so obviously down deep, they don't see it as being "normal" either.

Maes's own campain manager said they would rather see Hickenlooper become governor rather than get out of the race. Something tells me Hicks deep pockets are going to take care of Maes's mortage for a while.
