As much as it pains me to give credit to a raider, I have to say that's pretty good presence of mind for a big ugly. Seems to me that most OL would either lay there and get touched, or try to stand up and run and, likely as not, fumble the ball.

That was a key play. Led to a short 4th down (converted) and a game deciding score.

What a smart play. Seriously. I tried to find a joke here, but I don't really have any.

I was under the impression that you can't advance a fumble from your own team. Isn't it called the Casper rule?

It is the Casper rule from the "Holy Roller play, but it is only in the last 2 minutes of a half that it applies:

http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/fumble

On a play from scrimmage, if an offensive player fumbles anywhere on the field during fourth down, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If any player fumbles after the two-minute warning in a half, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If recovered by any other offensive player, the ball is dead at the spot of the fumble unless it is recovered behind the spot of the fumble. In that case, the ball is dead at the spot of recovery. Any defensive player may recover and/or advance any fumble at any time.

Damn...heads up play then. Considering that...this is the Raiders isn't it?

He missed his big chance. Forget falling on the ball. Scoop and score man.

What if it's recovered by the emergency QB?

That's ****ing dumb. If it's a live ball, anyone should be able to advance it.

Have you seen the "Holy Roller" play? The rule is in place so that teams can't intentionally "fumble" letting a teammate can pick it up and score.
