With the exception of core Obama Administration loyalists, most politically engaged elites have reached the same conclusions: the White House is in over its head, isolated, insular, arrogant and clueless about how to get along with or persuade members of Congress, the media, the business community or working-class voters.
On Friday, after the release of the latest bleak unemployment data — the last major jobs figures before the midterms — Obama said, "Putting the American people back to work, expanding opportunity, rebuilding the economic security of the middle class is the moral and national challenge of our time." But elites feel the President has failed to meet that challenge and are convinced he will be unable to do so in the remainder of his term. Moreover, there is a growing perception that Obama's decisions are causing harm — that businesses are being hurt by the Administration's legislation and that economic recovery is stalling because of the uncertainty surrounding energy policy, health care, deficits, housing, immigration and spending. And that sentiment is spreading. Many members of the general public appear deeply skeptical of Obama's capacity to turn things around, especially, but not exclusively, those inclined to dislike him — Tea Partyers and John McCain voters, but also tens of millions of middle-class Americans, including quite a few who turned out for Obama in 2008. But Obama has exacerbated his political problems not just by failing to enact policies that would have actually turned the economy around, but also by authorizing a series of tactical moves intended to demonize Republicans and distract from the problems at hand. In the past few days, we have witnessed the spectacle of the President himself and his top advisers wading into allegations that Republicans are attempting to buy the election using foreign money laundered through the Chamber of Commerce, combining with Karl Rove and his wealthy backers to fund a flood of negative television commercials. Not only is this issue convoluted and far-fetched, but it also distracts from the issues voters care about, frustrating political insiders and alienating struggling citizens (not that many are following such an offbeat story line). Feinting and gibing can't obscure those job numbers. Its over for this administration. |

They thought the country would welcome socialism with open arms, but got surprised. Sure, the northeast would welcome such a system, but most of the country doesn't want it. The results of such a system can be seen by other countries that try it. The Obamacare was his biggest blunder and making backroom deals only made it worse and is continuing to allow certain people and groups to opt out of it. What kind of system is that? More of the same politics as usual, which is not what Obama ran on. He ran on transparency and working with the other side, but has done neither.

If the Repugs are truly laundering money through the Chamber they should hang from the highest yard arm, and it's not that you wouldn't expect them to do something like that-they are desperate-
Obozo IS hurting this Country-he has done nothing to energize the Economy, and people are running out of time-small Businesses are failing at an alarming rate, increasingly people are living in the street, Unemployment is again on the rise, and he isn't doing a damn thing to make it right-we need someone in there (a Dem or Repug) to take care of Americans, help them get Jobs, and regain their dignity- |

I believe that you and your siblings (barry, dbrule, spdirty, cutt... and...) actually celebrate the failure of the economy and the lack of job growth even though that disaster was set into motion by your HERO. You and your ilk are the jhns's/broncofan7's of the political forum.
If the republicans were to regain some sort of control this fall we might as well drive the last nail in the coffin and bury this country. they almost succeded in ruining this country during their last 8yr stint, but now they have a selective memory about how well their policies worked. |

Besides, this is rich coming from such "Americans" as yourself who rooted for our troops to lose in Iraq. You can't hide from that no matter how much you try. |

And then the jobs we do get, they are so much fun, because now in this economy the inspectors are going around finding the most stupid **** to complain about, because for their own self interest they need to extend these jobs as much as they can, since they don't know where their next job will be, or if they will have another job to go to. Yeah, watching this economy go, and focusing on merely keeping our heads above water, not even being able to think about expanding anytime soon, man it really has me doing somersauts right now. |

Damn! When you take on the Chamber of Congress they sure can get their toadies to come after you. No surprise that Time, Inc. and the WSJ would come out as their attack dogs.
Didn't the Republicans from the outset say they were going to block everything and say no to everything? Isn't that what they've done? And now Time argues that it's Obama's fault for his inability to work with Congress? Strange take. |

![]() This would be funnier if it wasnt so pitiful. The Dems had carte blanche. They had a friggin' supermajority. That means that they could do whatever they needed to. It wasnt the repubs in the way...it was the Dems. Just look at Obamacare. It was a Dem that needed to be bribed into passing it. |

But, alas, Obama tried to reach out to your side in a spirit of bipartisanship. Apparently, Obama learned nothing from the Clinton presidency: You extend a hand to the repigs, and they'll cut it off at the elbow. |

These right-wing jackals don't care about anything but power. They would gladly call in an air strike on their own country if they thought it would improve their chances. |

![]() Are you kidding me? His proposal to let Dim Son's tax cuts for the rich expire is about the only issue upon which he hasn't compromised with the republi-cons. You get all your "news" from Glenn Beck - and it shows. |

Ah, so what compromises did Obama make for the repubs? Which compromises for republicans were written into that bill?

Pretty big compromises there. But I'm sure you'll try to find a way to construe all of these things as concessions to liberals. ![]() The Dems could have taken a page from the GOP play book and forced all of the above down your throat, but they did not. |
