This is the one of the best espn reader comments that I've read in quite some time:

Flipping the bird is clueless and classless. Charging $7 for a beer at the stadium is an obscene gesture.

This is going to be expensive, Rex Ryan paid 50k for flipping the bird at an MMA event in the offseason, Cecil on live TV in a game, could be 100k.

Yes. I think on Football Night in America, Dan Patrick's comment was somthing like, "That could be a 6-figure finger."

That's ****ing ridiculous. He's going to get fined 100 grand because some limp dick cameraman just happened to film him at that point. Maybe if he was throwing down a sieg heil, but middle finger? What year are we in, the 1930's?

It's a nationally televised game, he should know better. It's his own fault...

fair enough, but it's still there for all the world to see. ESPN showed it in their "highlights" or whatever, no? Point is, the exposure is huge...

Just out of curiosity, much like the Janet Jackson warddrobe malfunction, does the NFL get fined for this by the FCC and thus the harsher penalty?

I'm not sure if CBS gets fined, the NFL or both.

Doubtful. My prediction is that the big fine that the NFL will levy will be used as evidence that the league is doing something to police itself and thus the FCC will not come down as heavy on the league.

What's funny is his cheap-ass players simulated the snap causing the offense to move.

NFL fines Chuck Cecil $40,000 for middle finger

Posted by Michael David Smith on October 4, 2010 4:07 PM ET
Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil's decision to flip the bird at the officials on Sunday will cost him.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that the NFL has fined Cecil $40,000 for the gesture, which was caught by the TV cameras.

Cecil was reacting to a roughing the passer penalty on the Titans. Cecil's boss, Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, said that he, too, thought it was a bad call.

The fine easily could have been more than $40,000; Titans owner Bud Adams was fined $250,000 last year for giving the finger to Bills fans. Cecil has previously been fined $20,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct toward the officials in a game in December.

Seemed like an easy call to me. You can't dive at a QBs knees. That's exactly what the defender did. Pretty straight forward.

Finnigan can expect to hear from the NFL.

1- he's dirty and they will want to talk about it
2- you can't say you will help another player or coach pay a fine

For sure the Comish is going to be pissed about this.

Also Fisher is a fraud. His team has become the dirtiest in the NFL and he has the nerve to be influential on the competition commitee? give me a break. His team is full of thugs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the bird flipped after an offsides penalty, not the roughing call?
