Default Football Outsiders Ranks Orton #1 QB for Week 2. Bay-bay #3 WR

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/qui...-2-quick-reads

Footballoutsiders.com had Orton as their most valuable QB this week. Bay-bay was the #3 WR.

Kyle Orton
Orton's performance was overshadowed by the nature of the other afternoon games, but all he did on Sunday was consistently move his team down the field for points, drive after drive. He was 8-of-9 on first down for 56 yards, helping his team get into manageable third downs; on average, he only had 6.3 yards to go (in 2009, a dropback on third down came with an average of 7.7 yards to go). Then, on those third downs, he was a machine. Orton dropped back on 15 third downs and picked up a first down or a touchdown on 12 of them. While Orton often found himself forcing a throw into Brandon Marshall on third downs last year, he targeted six different receivers on those 15 passes. And this all comes while left tackle Ryan Clady is gimpy and right tackle Ryan Harris has been out with an injury.

Demaryius Thomas
As Vince noted in Audibles: Demaryius Thomas had at least four inches and 30 pounds on each of Seattle's starting corners, and he caught eight of nine passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. Guess what you have to look forward to in three years, Bears fans!

I don't understand the last line on D. Thomas. Is the writer suggesting the Broncos trade Thomas at the end of his rookie contract?

Weird. At first I thought it was because we perhaps were scheduled to play them in 3 years, but that's not it cause we play them next year.....

Very ironic. The writer acknowledges how good Orton is (traded away by Chicago) and then ignores his own analysis of Orton/Broncos by suggesting the Broncos don't know how to acquire and keep talent.

Last line was childish. I mean it's not like we extended Doom, Kuper, or Orton, right? We're not working on an extension with Champ, right?

Maybe he meant that we used the bear's pick to select bay-bay and the bears have nothing to look forward to from their WRs

I don't get what is so off with the joke. McDaniels has given away 2 of 3 young pro bowlers. I can't think of another coach that has ever given away multiple pro bowlers that were 25 or younger. So again, I don't see what is so off about the joke.

Good the national media is two steps behind Josh. Cutler was not a fit for the new Broncos and Bay Bay is, hand picked is.

We basically traded Marshall for Thomas - I like it.

Demaryius Thomas is exactly the type of talent and character this regime would never trade away. Did anyone notice how humble and "been there before" he acted all Sunday, even though he hadn't been there before? Immature a-holes with 4 years in the league like Cutler and Marshall could sure learn a lot from this kid.

What an asinine comment.

Good stuff.

If these guys can just keep getting wins, the back half of the season should be where the young guys start coming to the fore. Especially the youngsters on the offensive line, Robert Ayers, D.T., and the young DB's.

If they can just get through the first half of the season at about .500, there could be a playoff push.

And we still have a 2nd round pick next year!

Josh is playing 3-level chess while the MSM is smelling their own poo.

Not only pro bowlers but the best QB in the NFL. All so we could start a QB that makes everyone jump for joy when he manages a single good game. What a joke this McDaniels guy is.

jhns - when did McDaniels give away the best QB in all of the NFL? Last time I checked the consensus from those in the know and those out of it and those even as delusional as you tend to agree that Peyton Manning is still the best of the best for a QB in the current NFL. When was Peyton a Bronco?

He's just trolling and referring to the fact that JC has the highest QBR at the moment. In which case, Denver traded the best QB in the league for the 6th best + two 1st's & a 3rd.

Not to mention Vick is the '4th best QB', Josh Freeman is top 10 and Sanchito is better than Brady.
