The associated press claims that he said he likely won't play for a few more weeks and still has pain in his foot. He has however participated in full practice this week.

As I said in the Royal thread though, I'm personally of the opinion that the team wants him to take it easy and not rush it, since we have Lloyd who looked good on Sunday, coupled with two healthy young backups (Willis and Decker) looking to get PT already. We can wait for Thomas to be 100% healthy and pain free, then unleash him on the league.

I am sure he will feel the pressure to play, we did use a 1st rounder on him. Get out there and play, if not move him to the IR.

Anyone want to edit this for DT purposes? Josh's floating head would make a great maximus.

They're trying to get him into football shape and get familiar with the offense so he can actually be effective rather than a guy just running around. Taking their time with him is the right choice.

WR are such crapshoots in the first round you have to question the logic in taking an injured one in the first round. Mcdaniels missed on Smith for sure, may have missed on Moreno, he really needs Thomas to pan out.

I wish there was a "rub temples and sigh" smilie. Or a palmface, but that's not 100% what i'm feeling here.

For the last time; Smith wasn't a first round pick. Moreno played alright and will get better with time, and Ayers looks to be very solid. The doom and gloom around this place is astounding.

Ayers really looks like he's coming into his own. his spin move last week was really sweet, but his run support and ability to tackle in space impressed me even more. Moreno looked tentative, but was squirting through the holes. I assume when the line gels and he gets confidence in the hammy, he's gonna be much improved.

It is. But there isn't much of an alternative unless you're part of the super cool special group which in and of itself is off putting.

esp when they are not 100% from a foot injury. The dez bryant watch continues. DT has physical things to like, but not if he's not playing. This will be an interesting story over a couple of years.

The WR's in the NFL right now who are, or have at some point been, truly elite IMO are...

Larry Fitzgerald
Andre Johnson
Randy Moss

All first round picks.

Yes, there have been some monumental busts as well. But this is true of any position. You're more likely to get a good player in the first round than any other round, at any position on the field. WR is no different.

True, but those 3 I just see as being that bit special.

There are a lot of very good receivers in the league. Marshall and Vincent Jackson would be in the next tier also, T.O in his prime might have actually belonged in that elite group.

The receiver with the best chance to join that group is Calvin Johnson IMO, that guy just looks like the total package.

Moreno needs to pick it up if he wants people to stop calling him a bust. From what I've seen of him, I'd call him above-average. I want to see a good/great back.

DT, to me, has the biggest BEAST MODE factor of any of our recent top picks. For that reason alone he gives me hope and excitement for this year, and later.

Exactly. We haven't even had a chance to get Decker involved yet. We can let Thomas get 100% in every way, then let him show what he's got.

WR is a tough position to draft. The desire to succeed is far and away the single most important characteristic needed to make it at the NFL level. At the same time it is one of the most athletically demanding position on the field.

Teams always draft based on hard numbers, so WRs are taken in the order of their athletic evaluations. But no matter how fast or tall a WR is he's worthless if he isn't willing to spend the countless hours learning to run precise routes, develop timing with his QB, learn how to read an opposing coverage, etc.. Great WRs put significant amounts of time into honing their craft and desire remains the one thing NFL front offices just can't quantify.

We took Thomas as much for his work ethic and intelligence as we did his size and speed.
