Weather helps Jaguars against BroncosJACKSONVILLE Kyle Orton was asked if his rhythm was disrupted by the presence of Tim Tebow.

Last year, then-Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb complained about a similar insertion with Michael Vick. Those who watched Orton's performance in the preseason already knew the answer.

"This stuff made of the rhythm, you can put me in the stands for a play and I'd come back and be fine with the rhythm," Orton said after the Broncos' 24-17 loss Sunday to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Broncos were cruising on their game-opening drive with Orton at quarterback. First down, play-action completion for 28 yards to Daniel Graham, then a 10-yard run by Knowshon Moreno.

On first-and-10 at the Jacksonville 41, in came Tebow for the Wild Horse play. Tebow gained one yard.

Orton, who was split out wide on the play, went back to shotgun and completed a 13-yard pass to Eddie Royal. Tebow came back in on the next play, only this time he was split out wide right. He became a decoy as Orton threw left to Daniel Graham for 8 yards.

And on the Broncos went until Moreno's third-and-1 carry. It would have picked up a first down to the Jacksonville 12, but was called back by a holding penalty on rookie right tackle Zane Beadles, who had been playing left guard in training camp and most of the preseason.

Beadles' penalty and Orton taking a third-down sack instead of throwing it away and not the Tebow package cost the Broncos of scoring at least a field goal.

Tebow would get one more first down carry early in the second quarter, and got one more yard. He didn't take another snap.

"With Tim's package, if there was something that gave them trouble he would stay in a little bit more," said Broncos coach Josh McDaniels. "But we had not predetermined how many plays he would be in."

"The Tebow Package" against the Jaguars was about the first-down "Wild Horse" not the third-and-short, red-zone situations that would seem to suit his pass-run option talents.

"I don't know what to expect," Tebow said. "It's a day-to-day thing. We'll go to practice tomorrow and see what they want me to do and how they want me to do it. And that's what I'm going to go out there and do."

That "package" was a waste of plays. Even my cat knew it was a run up the middle.

Why would anyone be bothered?

Plain and simple, Coach wanted to get Tebow involved ASAP so he would not be "breaking his cherry" when it comes to an emergency situation. He will get more and more playing time as the season goes on.

I assume they were setting it up for a long pass play at some point, but the flow of the game never allowed for him to get back in...it would be something to do if we were up, which we never were.

That was pretty much it.

It was smart to do it in a game where Tebow has alot of road support and in a place where Tebow feels at home.

It made sense.

We might not see Tebow again unless Orton gets nicked.

We'll see Tebow again this coming week. The running plays are obviously meant to set up other things. I was glad to see him get a couple of snaps, albeit unproductive plays. That happens sometimes in football.

reading the article makes it sound like McDaniels had bad timing in the decision. Have nothing big on the opinion but Tebow has a future with this team we need to find what it is. As described, the penalty and not throwing the ball away killed that drive.

You don't always run plays to set up plays in that same game. Shanahan used to talk about setting up plays over the course of a season. Could very well be that using these early season looks with Tebow is just setting things up for some different plays later in the year.

I didn't like it.

There were interviews with Del Rio and defenders asking how they've prepared for Tebow all week long and we did exactly what they prepared for.

You don't need to set something up when it's already set up for you and 3 games from now a deep ball from him will be "more expected" (couldn't find the right words).

It felt like the possible outcomes of those plays were:

Tebow gets hurt
We gain no yards
We turn the ball over

Looks like we got lucky...

I can only view Tebow in the game as a way to get him experience and to plant a seed for later. Otherwise they were wasted efforts.

I thought it was smart....you get his feet wet and used to the speed of a regular season game.

It certainly makes sense to....at least once in awhile anyways. You'd think with Tebow, the Broncos would do it. I don't think they've even thrown the ball out of the Wild Horse formation.

Incidently, I was stuck with the Miami/Buffalo game yesterday....both teams ran it a few times, all were rushing attempts.

It was all about "Give the people what they want"
They wanted Tebow in Jacksonville.
Now his cherry is broke.

It seemed to be a crowd pleaser, unnecessary, completely obvious. Put him in there a few times, don't use him, keep them confused. Yesterday was ridiculous.

I wish they would've. Jacksonville was planning on Tebow running it all week. A quick PA fake and a deep bomb had a pretty solid shot at going for a quick score for 2 reasons:

1. They would NOT have been expecting it

2. Tim showed he's our most accurate/best deep passer.

I think if the game had progressed differently we would have seen the bomb.

We should've seen it on play #3 when we trotted him out at the start, imo.

Set the tempo. Shake up their DBs. Possibly score.

What's the downside? We throw a 40 yard int and they get the ball where they got it anyways? Oh no!
