Adopt-a-Bronco:
Tim Tebow
Default Thursday, Aug 12th Camp Observations

Made it to camp this afternoon, Aug 12th. In general, this camp was dragging compared to many of the camps I have been too. Lots of red jerseys, lots of players walking a bit gingerly and no-one really running at full speed today. Not a lot to report, except that all three quarterbacks looked pretty poor today. Orton threw two picks, and B-dawk should have had a third. Tebow got more reps then Quinn in practice today, but also looked a bit shakey. He tried to force a ball into too tight a pocket, and should have been picked but was not. Quinn looked disasterous today. He had a long pass down the field that Brandon Lloyd came up with after a Tanya Harding pirouette. My back hurts just watch the reception. He also was picked off. In short, not a good day for any of the QB. Outside of that, just about everything was wild. Quinn doesn't seem to have progressed at all since the opening day of camp.

Alphonso Smith made one fairly spectacular read on a short slant from Tebow to Willis. Cox looked great in both special teams and on the field. B-Dawk was the only one there that I thought really put his heart and soul on the line, and really made four impressive plays including a amazing smackdown of a pass over the middle to Stokley.

Royal, Thomas, Decker didn't play today, and I got a strong feeling about how week the remaining W.R talent behind them. Brandon Lloyd was getting good separation, but Orton overthrew him twice, Quin once and Tebow once.

Fargas was on the field, but as the third running back behind Ball (who looked decent) and Hall (who didn't). Looked good in drills, but slipped on his first play on 9 on 7s, and didn't do anything spectacular.

I've noticed that they are using Spencer Larsen more this year, and the trend continued. He has several solid receptions, and a solid catch. Good times.

First team ran mostly 3-4, second team mostly 4-3, probably to get the teams familar with Cinci's defensive line.

to be fair, bdawk has had more time off than the other guys, he might have a little more fire behind him today. that and hes awesome.

Care to elaborate on the "shakey?"

For those of you that are wondering about the red jerseys (and not sure if Lostknight know or not?) but that is the Bengals team designator. Usually you'll see the other team's top players on defense or offense. For example, last year when we were getting ready to play the Niners we had a guy wearing Frank Gore's number running expected plays. Yesterday we had three guys wearing #s, I think it was Rivers, Mauluga and Odom maybe (not sure about the 3rd). Anyhow, they install the offense and make sure those guys are accounted for, thus the red jerseys.

A below spectacular Tebow accounting, I'm utterly shocked.

Oh well, Quinn still sucks and Cox is still great, so the norm wasn't rocked all that much.

Sorry, but this smacks of hearing a recap of a presidential debate. Purely subjective company line lip flapping.

Cox seems to be putting Fonzie to shame.

Where did we get him, draft or Miami or ??

Oklahoma St. Widely considered one of the premiere cover guys coming out of college but he was suspended and has had some off the field issues that caused him to slide significantly on draft day. Think of him as the CB version of Dez Bryant. I believe we drafted him in either the 4th or 5th round this year and so far he has been great on the field... other than getting SMOKED yesterday by a veteran double move (Lloyd).

Oh, and let me just say that if Alphonso Smith is our 5th CB... we are FRIGGIN DEEP!!! Smith may be a little further down the depth chart right now but that doesn't mean he can't play. The guy is making plays.

Yes, I should have added the disclaimer of injury jerseys not Bengal Jerseys. Those came out to play as well. Tebow had two underthrown balls, and one that he tried to rifle between a few defenders. Most of the reps for all the QB's were rushing plays. I can't honestly say if Orton or Tebow looked better today, but they both looked better then Quinn. The Tebow haters gonna hate, so no surprise there.

Alphonso Smith looks great - when he is recovering from his early mistake. He makes great diving passes on the ball, but that's after he let the WR get away.

I felt far more comfortable with our WR depth prior to today. Getting Eddie, DT and Decker back will be a good thing.

WTF a-hole? Do you really have nothing better to do then sneer at people who take time out to report the practice today? Yes, there were too jerseys, because one of the injured red-shirts was wearing a second red jersey over their injury "do not tackle" jersey.

A second jersey on the grassy knoll? Sounds suspicious.

I appreciate the report, just not the obvious biases.

Check my posts, here and on the official forum. I've been nothing but effusive of my praise for both Orton (called him the most accurate passer, clear starter, taking more shots downfield, better condition) and Tebow (day 1 panic, stepping up, good long range control, very elusive in the pocket, best arm). I've not had much to say about Quinn - he's kinda in no man's land with a stronger arm then Orton, but not as good as Tebow, better technique then Tebow, but no where near Orton. Quinn's the forgotten man

I also praised Smith day 1, bashed him most of my other posts.

I think you mean to say that you don't like that my opinions at camp don't jive with yours at home.

That is pretty much what I thought yesterday as well. Though I was impressed with Quinn a few times as he got the ball out right as his back foot hit the ground. His arm strength is about the same as Orton's. Tebow's is far greater than any of them, just has to figure out how to tighten his balls up.

I really have a sense that Orton's regressed the last week - including last Sunday's scrimmage. That was by far worse then any of his practices, and he looked worse today. It's probably just the grind of camp, but asking Orton to make more downfield passes is going to result in more interceptions.

I worry a bit about Orton's overall physicality, his overall stamina and strength when the hits start coming.

He's mentally tough, but he's not physically dominant overall.

Well then he looked great last week because he looked damn good yesterday compared to last years camp. He looked comfortable and confident. Its his line that has me worried.
