Default Elvis Dumervil expected back this season (2010)

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_15734598

http://broncotalk.net/2010/08/16786/...-back-in-2010/

A day after Elvis Dumervil underwent surgery to repair a torn pectoral ó recall that the Broncos were waiting for this surgery to really determine how long Dumervil would be out ó the Postís Mike Klis opens his mailbag with this little ditty:

ďLetís begin this mailbag by stating that based on nearly everything Iíve been hearing, Elvis Dumervil is expected back this season.Ē

I feel conflicted on this.

Does he push it to come back for a couple games this year?
Or does he rehab like a mutha and come back 100% in 2011 (that is, if we have a season next year)?

Hmm.
I don't know about this... everything I've read about this injury points to a very long and extended recovery.

We'll see.

When this season though? He can sit on the PUP list for 6 weeks, but after that he's eating up a roster spot.

He can't even be on PUP though can he? He participated in Training Camp. He will take up a roster spot for the entire time he is out.

Not sure he would be effective enough to bring back mid season just IR him and let him rehab it to 100%

Expected? He had surgery yesterday, has had no rehab, and he's expected back? GTFOH.

The training camp PUP is different than the regular season one. You put a player on the preseason PUP so that he doesn't eat up one of your 80 roster spots while he's recovering from off season injuries, conditioning, whatever.

You can put a player on the regular season PUP all the way up to the start of the season. The Broncos did this with Carlton Powell a couple years ago. Thus, there really is no reason to put him on IR until week 10.

The problem is, come week 10, Dumervil will have to be either put on IR or take up one of the 53 roster spots. It gives them quite a bit of flexibility, though. If at that point the Broncos have any shot at making the playoffs, Dumervil conceivably could only be a week or so from returning if Klis is correct.

With our 3 trick pony at QB, and 7 RB's, we need a roster of 65.

Sounds like Doom's surgury went well tho.

He should go on IR regardless.

I would have to agree....is it worth it to push it and risk re-injury. Plus all of the things out there about how intense and long the rehab is to get it close to normal is long....IR him and hope others pick it up!

Get back in the building Elvis.
Here is how I look at things:
If we are looking good toward the end of the season(bearing no collapse), I think we bring him back in time for the playoffs. If we are garbage and season is slipping away, keep him healthy for next year. Probably a no brainer

It couldn't have been as serious as thought if he could return this season.

That's my thinking as well. What could it be? The doctor got in there and discovered it was only a partial tear instead of a full rip?
