HOW COULD YOU MISS THIS
?http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/n...ory?id=5383889 Injured Hixon let go by Giants * Comments18 By Ohm Youngmisuk ESPNNewYork.com Archive The New York Giants waived wide receiver Domenik Hixon, who recently underwent surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament, on Thursday afternoon. The team then signed wide receiver Adam Jennings, a 2006 sixth-round pick of Atlanta. Hixon underwent surgery 10 days ago after suffering a season-ending knee injury during the team's first practice on the new turf at the New Meadowlands Stadium last month. If Hixon clears waivers, however, the Giants are expected to place the popular wide receiver on injured reserve. The Giants have been searching for a returner to replace Hixon, who was the team's best punt and kickoff returner. Sinorice Moss, Mario Manningham and Aaron Ross are still candidates to become the team's punt returner. |

So fwiw, not trying to light a fire here, but it is interesting to watch:
If Hixon's injury means he's done (and not headed to the Redskins), that means Jim Goodman's impressive three-year run takes a hit. Now 2 of the 20 guys from the '06, '07 and '09 drafts are out of the league, Greg Eslinger is the other. And I suppose Ryan Torain is hardly a sure thing, Carlton Powell and Jarvis Moss neither. Hero Mns Powell is with Tim Crowder in Tampa Bay now. |

Actually now I see Hixon will be brought back to the Giants IR, that is if Shanahan or somebody else doesn't claim him off waivers.
That'd be a great poll ... will Mike Shanahan claim Domenik Hixon off waivers? Come full circle? I'm guessing YES he will. |

Why can't they put him on IR without cutting him first?

I think that's how it works if you put him on the PUP list, which is different from IR. PUP list players are expected to heal up and be available to be activated at a certain point during the season. IR means you are done for the year.

Why would Shanahan claim him? Shanahan was the one who released him back in 2007 after 4 games when he was with the Broncos.

I was ready to make this a thread yesterday afternoon, but after reading the article I decided it would be premature. He'll probably be on the Giants IR this year

He was one of the best pieces of garbage on the Giants WR garbage heap beneath Burris two years ago. He didn't do crap last year. He is a player that will make some nice cathes for you and is fast but is nowhere near consitant or durable enough to be anything more than a returner that you throw in as a 4th WR occasionally to stretch the field.

As I recall, Shanahan was pretty ticked off/embarrassed at losing him, in that clenched-jaw way of his. |

I don't think that's quite right. A better description would be a taller Kevin Kaspar, or a less angry David Kircus with a touch of short-haired Jack Williams thrown in for flavor.

New York Giants WR Domenik Hixon (knee) has cleared waivers, which will allow the Giants to place him on Injured Reserve if they wanted, according to Jason La Canfora, of NFL Network. Read more: http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl#ixzz0tzgCI9J9 |

This was more a statement of numbers. The Giants picked Manningham two years ago and Hakeem Nicks last year. Add those two to Steve Smith, Sinorice Moss, Hagen and a pack of rookies they brought in this year. The Giants are young and deep at WR.
