I'm not one to buy into entertainment hype (skipped Avatar), but this looks awesome.

You really do hate that series don't you.

One of the worst over-hyped movies I've seen recently was Terminator 3, or Revolution or whatever it was called. The one that just came out. That movie was just plain dog ****.

Also:
Surrogates (Great example IMO of hype around a perfectly mediocre movie)
The Last Airbender (obviously)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Land of the Lost
GI Joe

All over-hyped pieces of trash.

hate is a bit strong, but I am disturbed by the sight of women my age who have posters of that boy vampire up in their office cubicle. Don't get me wrong there are some very attractive 20 something males out there (I myself have a little crush on a 27 year old actor from the Tudors, though I do not post pictures of him up at work).

I just think Twilight gets way more attention that it deserves. It's basically a vampire movie for 12 year old girls.

After reading you post about Mr. Brooks a few weeks back I tried to rent it on my Apple TV but they will only sell it for 14.99. Is it worth it?

The only Costner movies I remember liking are If You Build it They will Come and Dancing with Wolves.

The very worst was The Postman.

Baja, If you Build it is actually known by the title "Field of Dreams." And for the record Costner was best in Bull Durham, but Field of Dreams and Untouchables are also good.

Just looked at his "resume" of movies on imdb and actually forgot one. For Love of the Game. I really like him in that one too.

What about Knight and Day recently? ALL of the New Star Wars.

I agree, V for Vendetta sucked balls.

I think over blown is a matter of opinion and often has to do with what you like. Never liked any of the Star Wars, Star Treks, Avatar because I don't generally like those type of movies.

I think as far as disappointed in a movie I was looking forward to was The Firm. The book was excellent, they totally changed the ending. Yes the book is always better but it wasn't even that, it was changing it totally.

Costner killed me in Robin Hood...everyone else in the movie had accents...even Morgan Freeman. Costner sounded like an extra for Sopranos. Made no damn sense...

I think there should also be a list of overhyped movies after the fact. Movies that absolutely SUCKED yet everyone likes to pretend they liked it because it has some sort of a "critical acclaim" attached to it, or because it makes people feel like they are smart.

Here's my #1 for that: Clerks

Such a piece of crap movie with Kevin Smith's horribly contrived dialogue, crappy character development, and worthless humor. Somehow though, it got this reputation as being one of the first great indys of a new generation and now everyone and their mom lies to themselves and everyone else about how much they loved it, because they want to sound smart. Well it sucked, along with every other movie Kevin Smith has ever made, with maybe the exception of Mallrats.

I like Kevin Smith but I would agree with this, I believe this ushered in a few movies that abused dialogue to make it appeal to others as a perceived sense of higher intelligence. Hell, that sounded smarmy by itself ;p

For recent movies I would put Juno in this category.
