I've gotten it free the last few years but they are cracking down this year. Best I could do this year was half price for the package without the max and that took A LOT of work

Solid work....although if you would have talked them into throwing in a hand job, you'd be feeling better than good, you'd be feeling great.

I hope you were talking to a female rep on the phone.

Got the Max for only 3 payments of $41. $15 credit to my bill for 6 months. Basically paying $36 for Sunday Ticket Max. I'll take it. I guess I automatically re-signed for 2 more years back in February when I got the Genie. I didn't have a whole lot of leverage and still ended up getting the whole thing for $36. Not to shabby.

Anything in particular you said? I got offered 40 off for 3 months then 25 off for a year but that's it. I told them I wanted time to think about the great offers I had from Dish and Time Warner.

If you had the Sunday Ticket last year, then be sure to keep your eye on your bill. Those a-holes just automatically renewed ours (without authorization) and charged us the first of six installments that (they think) will total $330. They are going to receive an unpleasant phone call on Monday because we weren't planning to renew.

Same thing happened to me. Going to complain and see if I get anything out of it. Probably will do NFL rewind instead since most of the Broncos games last year were on national TV anyways.

They billed us for Sunday Ticket Max -- and there's absolutely no way we want that service at that price. They will make an adjustment or lose a customer.

Sunday Ticket max, what the hell does that include? For that money they should send someone around to pop you some corn with butter on game day.

this is standard procedure, they tell you on your previous bills YOU have to call to cancel or else it auto renews

How annoying that is -- I wonder what percentage of customers just pay it (and what percentage respond with an irate phone call)? If it's standard procedure for them, then it must be profitable at some level.

I'm quite unhappy about it and unless they reverse it, will close our account with DirecTV.

I'm sure they will -- we're not locked into any contracts, so if they don't, I'm fully prepared to tell them where to shove it.

Not at all happy that I have to take time on Monday to call them to fix this though -- and wanted to alert other DirecTv customers to watch for this to possibly happen to them as well. Irritating your customers and wasting their time isn't an ideal tactic for customer retention.

So I called today (asked for the retentions department) and threatened to cancel.

I've been with them since 2008, btw.

I ended up getting the Max for $40 for 4 months, a $15 discount off my bill for the next 12 months, PLUS another $25 in credit off my next upcoming bill.

So in essence I'm only paying $75 in total for the next 4 months for Sunday Ticket.

I think I made out pretty well.

Sorry gang. Did not see all the follow up.

Key was calling says after contract and being willing to go to Comcast to save a buck. Also, shared that I could go to a bar and catch games I could not grab on the regional games.

Always go to customer retention.

They tell you they set it to auto re-new. It's the same thing with anything programming with them...HBO etc. You have to cancel manually. I told them last year I didn't want it to re-new and they did it anyway. They credited me for the amount the next bill.

I've only been with them since November 2009. That and I have like a year and a half left on my contract. I thought paying $36 for the Max was a pretty good deal.

Called them today and spent more than 15 minutes on hold waiting for the next available customer service representative. Immediately asked for a supervisor so he said he was going to transfer my call to Customer Retention. Instead he hung up on me.

Being -- disinclined -- to start the whole "waiting on hold for customer service" process a second time, I went to their website and sent an irate email. Someone is supposed to get back to me within 48 hours, but at this point I'm probably going to close my account no matter what they do. Giving us a discount on the Sunday Ticket isn't going to work; the reason I wasn't planning on renewing it is that I work Sundays.

I think we've been with DirecTv for more than 10 years.

Call back, ask to go directly to Customer Retention. Explain what happened, but be cool about it. Let them know that you are interested in cancelling if you cannot work something out.
