Very sad.
Loved watching his Cardinal and Charger teams in the 70's. Jim Hart and Fouts really benefited from Don. RIP |

I vaguely remember him from seeing SD-Den games.

Sad to hear. If you love offense and screw the defense, then you would have loved Coryell (unless of course you are a Broncos fan). Sad to hear. Changed how football offense is played. So much credit goes to late Bill Walsh but it all started back in the early 70s with Coryell.

At first glance all I thought of was The Godfather.

I think eventually they will put Coryell into the HOF. Why couldn't they do it while he was still alive?

Air Coryell. A great innovator. Much of the modern game (especially the passing game) you see on Sundays was created by Don Coryell.

I love defense but having the privilege to watch Elway I have to thank Coryell. I do not understand why he is not in the HOF. He changed the face of the game. RIP

I had season tickets to the Chargers from 78-85. The prime Coryell years
I'm not sure why their defense gave up so many points. The had all pros at DE, DT and CB but you gotta love those 39-38 last seond wins. The MIA playoff game still ranks right up their as far as one of the most entertaining games ever John Jefferson was just plain sick until he got greedy and Klein ship his ass to GB. Replaced by Wes Chandler and the O didn't miss a beat However I think Kellen Winslow revolutionized the TE position with this speed and receiving ability. He was the ultimate matchup problem back then. As much as I like Sharpe, Winslow for me is the best I've ever seen |

Sad day in Boltville. Deserves the HOF. But never made the big show. But if there is one coach without a SB win who deserves to go though it is probably him. Just a real nice guy too.
It was fun growing up being a fan of Air Coryell. |

RIP, Coach Coryell. I used to love watching him in St. Louis. His teams were great to watch with Jim Hart, Terry Metcalf, Mel Gray and Roger Wehrli.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of him is that Miami/SD playoff game in 1981.
I liked him a lot better when he was coaching the Cards R.I.P. |

I still can't believe he's not in the HoF.
It shows how clueless the sportswriters of this country are. Do they even know the history of this game? Maybe they'll learn a little history by watching the tributes on NFL Network this week. I've always wondered wtf is it the sportswriters who get to choose this honor and not a committee of ex-players and coaches. |
