Default OT - Iconic Film Characters

Inspired by The Rev's Spiderman thread, I wonder what other Characters are considered to be untouchable, including ones that were remade more popular (e.g. Pacino as Tony in Scarface is technically more popular than the original film from the 1930s) or made worse by sequel or remake (e.g. Psycho's Norman Bates...freaking Vince Vaughn, really). So the poll above will include 10 Icons and an other so you can vote for your favorite Icon and why he or she should be left alone.

Cheers.

PS - Here's a website of one take on iconic characters http://www.empireonline.com/100-grea...ault.asp?c=100

This also came about because I was bored after spending most of the day fixing my refrigerator, stupid refrigerator.

Honestly, I was trying to add another strong recent female character that's readily identifiable and I couldn't put both of them on the list. Probably should've gone with Julie Andrews as either Maria in Sound of Music or Mary Poppins.
At any rate, that's why there's an "other" option. Personally, I can't stand Tony Montana, but I know he's an iconic character.

I voted Norman Bates, partly because I am still irritated by the casting of Vince Vaughn in the remake. Actually, I am irritated by the presence of the remake, it's pointless. And I believe that Anthony Perkins career truly was set after that movie. He was pretty much Norman Bates from that point on. Technically I suppose I should've included Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal for the same reason. Oops.

He's iconic certainly but he's been recast and ably played by many actors, got a preference? My fave bond is Sean Connery, but I really like Daniel Craig too.

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider

As for the poll, I went with Atticus Finch. I loved that you included him. We actually contemplated naming a future son, Atticus...

That is my favorite book, ever. And actually as far as Gregory Peck goes, he was pretty much Atticus forever after that, though he did make a lot of other great films, Cape Fear and Roman Holiday. Hmm, perhaps I need to vote again.

I don't know about Lara Croft, frankly I kind of think she's a bit too shallow a character. I would've put Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the film is camp and the Buffy I would've wanted is Sarah Michelle Gellar which was TV. I find more iconic females in TV than film as a general rule.

I love Kate Hepburn for instance, but I am not certain I could specify a role that is so specifically identifiable to her (though I love love love Philadelphia Story and Brining Up Baby), whereas Audrey Hepburn can be tied to Holly GoLightly in Breakfast at Tiffanys.

Blondie(aka Clint Eastwood) - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Pretty much every great movie performance, i'm so SICK of movies being remade. It isn't broke, YOU CAN'T make it any better, it doesn't need to be remade with sparkly special effects, LEAVE IT ALONE. Here's a novel idea, come up with your own original idea(maybe even one not based off a comic).

There was a HUGE fan uprising when Daniel Craig was cast as the new Bond. People were practically rioting in the streets. Funny how all that went away, though, minutes after Casino Royale hit the big screen. That was one "risky" pick that paid off big time for the franchise.

Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. Can't take this latest guy in the reboot seriously.

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. He could've held out for a billion dollars for the last two HP movies and they would've had to pay him. Make fun of the franchise and him all you want, but there's no way they would want to re-cast him right now.

Love Daniel Craig. He's my favorite right after Sir Sean Connery of course. Plus as a bonus for the girls we got him coming out of the water all hot and stuff...sighhh. Not that I don't love Pierce, but for me, he is always Remington Steele, I loved that show.

and yes Robert Englund is a better Fred Krueger, but I have to say, they killed the series with too many smart aleck remarks. He's scarier when he says less. I liked some of the things in the remake, though I agree with somene else's assessment that the lead girl was not nearly as strong as the original Nancy who was a great improvement on most "Final Girls" in horror being strong, intelligent and proactive in setting traps to catch Freddy. Maybe they should just stop remaking movies and come up with something new. That'd be nice.
