Default 2014 Super Bowl will be testing ground

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says more Super Bowls possible at cold-weather sites
Associated Press

LOWELL, Mass. -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says the success of the 2014 Super Bowl slated for Meadowlands Stadium will determine whether more championships are played at undomed cold-weather sites.

Would be cool if this opened the door for Denver.

Would make for a push for new stadiums for some cold weather teams. But there will probably be a limit to how cold weather they will allow, such as Minnesota won't get a super bowl without a lid on the stadium of some sort.

Play the game the way it's supposed to be played. In cold weather.
It'll be nice to be able to host it here in Denver someday. Football fans actually don't care about the weather. It could be 60 degrees here in February as it could well be 12 below...

Come on, it took New York, the biggest football market in the world, building a giant new stadium to get anywhere near hosting the super bowl and even then it was far from a sure thing. Aside from a dome none of the real cold weather cities will get it.

Sad, but true. The NY big market probably trumped everything else they could've thrown at them

I'm surprised some player hasn't whined about it yet. You know, because the Super Bowl should be a warm weather reward for the players and nobody wants to get there only to find it's below zero.

Good thinking Rog ... weather conditions on one February night in 2014 are a solid foundation, upon which future decisions of such magnitude should be based.
