Default Who is the most recognizable current Colorado athlete, nationally?

Interesting question that was being discussed on The Fan this afternoon until Russell's release was announced. Among current Colorado athletes, who is the most recognizable - on the national stage?

Ubaldo Jimenez - Not out of the question to say he's the best Colorado athlete right now with his undefeated record and no-hitter to his name. But outside of the baseball world, is he well known?

Tim Tebow - He hasn't taken a snap yet but he's already the highest selling jersey in the NFL and with his Heisman Trophy, National Championships and Disney-like character - ESPN and the media have been all over his arrival in Colorado.

Lindsey Vonn - The darling of the Olympic games was not only a Gold Medalist but crazy hot as well. But while the Olympics pulls big numbers from the main stream audience, it only lasts a few weeks and some may have already forgotten her.

Carmelo Anthony - A major force in the hip-hop world of marketing and endorsements, Melo has been a world-wide figure since arriving in Denver. No league focuses on stars more than the NBA, and Melo is certainly one of the sport's premier names

Other notables - Champ Bailey, Chauncey Billups, Brady Quinn

Tebow I'd say, although maybe Melo.

It's Tebow, Melo just doesn't have the same level of recognition among non sports watchers.

Same answer ... kids barely know football anymore, especially not college football.

It's so not even close ... basketball is king. Times 10.

The entire population of the state of Florida bought Tebow jerseys in the last 2 weeks. I would venture to say that the Tebow Jersey has already outsold Melo's.

It's gotta be Carmelo and by a landslide.

Colorado and Florida are the only two states that Tim Tebow is recognizable, Melo is all 50.

Carmelo Anthony has at least DOUBLE the national name recognition of Tebow.

In fact, Melo is probably Top 25 best known athletes period.

I don't have time now, but go ahead and Google it.

Kids barely know football? Have you looked at NFL TV ratings lately? Football is king in this country and its not even remotely close. The answer is Tebow. Go look at the jersey sales.

Spoken like someone who's never been to the south. College sports are more popular than pro sports. And Tebow is the biggest college player in the last ten years.

I went with Melo by a hair over Tebow, but if Tim becomes our starting QB and plays well - it will be him by a landslide. Keep in mind Tebow's attention is so great because the draft just happened recently, if this poll were conducted in February, I may have voted for Vonn.

I voted for Anthony, but I think its a split between Tebow and Anthony. If you ask a group of kids who Anthony or Tebow are, you would get nba all star and college quarterback back as answers.

ok, well in that case i guess Omri Casspi is also more popular than Tebow? If Melo were LeBron James and Kobe, I'd agree...but he's not. The answer is Tebow.

College Basketball > NBA X 2

The NBA has been lagging in popularity for some time.

And football is like the cool older brother that basketball wishes it was. Football, College and pro, popularity is way ahead of any pro sports.
