He's gonna need some new bling for his new backup gig.

So much for him being "sharp" in OTAs...

Let us not forget he's still got that other great #1 pick, Janokowski.

A kicker, in the first round, it still floors me.

JaMarcus Russell has been released by the Raiders confirmed.

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have released former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell after three unproductive and highly paid seasons.

Senior executive John Herrera told The Associated Press the move was made Thursday and that "we wish him well."

The decision comes less than two weeks after Oakland acquired Jason Campbell from Washington to take over at quarterback.

Russell will now likely be considered the biggest draft bust in NFL history. He will have been paid more than $39 million by the Raiders, while producing only seven wins as a starter.

He lost his starting job midway through last season. His career has been hampered by a rookie holdout, poor work habits, being overweight and the lack of productive players around him.

Looooooool.

What does this mean for them financially, moving forward? Or is his hit just gone forever now?

Just sayin', dude was sharp enough to make $39 million. If he plays his cards right, he's a Playboy Insider for life.

Broke in 5 years if he doesn't get a backup gig.

Actually, now he can see if he can get on with some other team and really make big money.......

He will never supplant Leaf as the biggest bust, although on a pound for pound mesure, Russsel is certainly the largest.......

I wonder if his entourage will turn on him now? Seriously I can't imagine they have a lot of qualifications for other jobs. I bet he gets robbed soon if no teams sign him.

He'll latch on somewhere else. Interior DL with the ability to rush the buffet are a high value commodity in the NFL.

Chargers signed Ryan Leaf to a four-year contract worth $31.25 million, including a guaranteed $11.25 million signing bonus. It was, at the time, the largest signing bonus ever paid to a rookie.

Russell held out through training camp and the first weeks of the 2007 NFL season, until September 12, 2007, when he signed a six-year contract worth up to $68 million, with $31.5 million guaranteed

Russell cleary was the bigger bust.

If he's smart (which we know he's not) he'd pawn this ASAP.

Oakland seemingly has a very strange way of working the cap. they sign big free agents yearly, and have a top 5 pick in every draft, yet there is never any talk about them working to stay under the cap.
