Default Mcdaniels draft wrap-up presser on db.com now

http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.ph...V&year=&month=

I missed the first couple minutes but here goes...

Quote:
Olsen will start at guard... have the opportunity to compete at both G and C.

Wanted to improve depth at OL. Got bigger and more versatile.

No hesitation with picking our new CB. He is certainly more talented than where he was drafted. He has to live up this end of the bargain and he believes he will. If you can add a player that can also contribute to the kicking game that is huge. In the kicking game he's a bigger player, not easy to tackle. Good quickness. Great vision. Shown the ability to make big time plays.

Versatility important to all picks.

Robert Ayers looks good coming on... will play SAM. Haggan is going to play Mike.

Andra was a starter but wasn't really fast and wasn't going to contribute on special teams. We felt [cutting him early] was the fairest thing to do.

Scouts did a great job. 96 names on the board.

Campbell seems like a good fit for Oakland. We'll see how it plays out.

Wanted to add a few players that could help us score the ball and change field position. We tried to do that.

Adding Tebow will improve the competition at QB.

We're going to tweak our system to take advantage of the draftees strengths.

Not going to comment on whether we'll have 3 active QBs or not.

Really liked the new draft setup. Gave you a lot of time between round 1 and rounds 2 + 3.

Eddie Royal is learning lots of different WR spots.
Seems slightly disappointed we didn't get a back for the goal line but other than that very positive.

96 names on the Broncos board. Wow, I think I said they had 100 names...

Josh says he didn't get everything they wanted, LBer being one of the positions.

I thought I heard one of the guys say "thank you, coach" as if that were the predetermined end of the interview.

You never do.

ILB is a position I really wonder about going into the season.

Still, we've rounded out both sides of the ball nicely. But, there are going to remain areas of concern.

Thought what he said about Beadles was very interesting.

Think he's an insurance policy for Harris (and Clady, Tebow forbid, as well I guess), but a guy who can play at Guard as well if both of them are healthy.

Really digging that pick more and more.

the fact he admits he wanted a LB tells me they weren't going to settle for players based on need...and I like that

he got the guys he wanted

also who needs a goal line back, we have Tebow

I'm not overly concerned about ILB. It's a position that could use an upgrade ultimately, no doubt, but I have faith that Haggan will at least be competent in his role as the starting SILB.

God knows what the staff think of Larsen, but he does seem suited to that position as well with how he plays the game.

My big concern is that they added nothing on the D-Line.

One DE spot I'm quite happy with. Bannan as the starter with Green spelling him and coming in on passing downs is very solid. But on the other side it seems like LeKevin Smith and Ryan McBean will be fighting it our for PT. Not sure I like that to be honest.

NT is also questionable. Jamaal Williams is a fine player, but with a guy his size you never know when he'll hit the wall. Fields is a great back-up, but only marginal as a starter and he's only got one year left on his deal anyway. We really could use a long term solution at NT. Maybe Baker is that guy, but that isn't too likely.

Maybe, I'm not sure he's well suited to playing 3-4 DE but if he can put it together that'd be great.

Hopefully one of them can pan out, or we can at least get by through rotating them.
