Default So... How do we use Tebow?

OK... not real thrilled with the pick, but it is what it is.

On the bright side, the kid has some skills and with a creative enough coach I think we can figure out how to get him on the field this year.

Add to that, I think McKidd knows that he needs to win now... if he wants a chance to coach tim in the future.

So how do we use him?

Wildcat?

Some Florida Gator Plays?

Decoy?

We go to the shotgun spread like McD ran for the Pats in 2007. Probably why he changed long snappers.

Goaline and short yardage packages? Hope he can run through tackles like he did in the SEC.

I have to figure that they will work in some kind of "package" for him. Denver uses a lot of shotgun formations anyway.

The main battle will be between Orton and Quinn, with the loser seeing little time on the field.

This will be McD's biggest test. If he really thinks he can coach up technique (which is admitedly easier than coaching up size, speed or character) then he certainly has some prime raw material here.

our weakness on offense was short yardage...

so my guess is on 3rd and a yard or two we'll see Tim Tebow at QB in shotgun in a 4/5 WR spread...

with all those WRs on the field you have to go to a dime/quarters defense and that would be childs play for Tebow to tuck and run for a 1st down...

if the defense decides to keep a base unit out there to defend short yardage then you get easy matchups for your WRs...

i think at the very least, this move solves our short yardage situation, and possibly redzone too...

Wildcat

Goalline Jump Pass

Spread Offense plays.

The ability to do these things well will probably get him on the field sooner than most think, even if it is as a part time guy.

That is the one thing I noticed about Tebow (or I was just seeing things to feel better). He seems bigger than the other QB's in this draft. Bradford and McCoy look smaller than Tebow. He seems to be a good fit for tuck and run on short yardage and red zone plows.

I do think that there is generally a lack of knowledge of what Tebow actually can do, and what the stats are. I think his path at Florida is going to be indicitive of a "migration" strategy for him.

For year 1, I think we end up seeing him as a occasional "wild horses" QB. We might end up seeing him line up in the backfield as a running back or fullback (or h-back) as well. Where Tebow really has the ability to make a huge difference will be in third down and long, where he brings three things we don't currently have - a high yards per attempt, decent mobility avoiding the rush, and the ability to scramble down the field during sell out blitzes.

I think year two, he gets a change to battle Quinn and Orton for starter.

I think the counter argument makes more sense; that McDaniels has bought himself more job security with Tebow, than less.

Josh said he stole some plays from Florida so I'm sure those will be used. I instantly thought that Tebow could help solve some of our short yardage issues with QB sneaks (assuming the interior OL is upgraded). Wild Horses packages and Goal Line packages can be used too.

Maybe, maybe not...

Right now no one knows what the internal discussions are at dove valley.

IMO, if josh wants to guarantee a chance to coach this kid down the line, he better win now.

Given a night to think about it, I believe Josh will throw Tebow into the mix right out of the gate. A guy who makes that ballsy of a gamble in the draft is not going to sit around for two or three years nurturing a player. He's going to work up an offense that fits Tebows skills and toss him in. Like it or not, we're going Tebow ballin'.
