Day One Surprise:Tim Tebow's a Denver Bronco
Tim Tebow
Tim Tebow

Josh McDaniels and the Denver Broncos pulled off the biggest shock of Day One drafting University of Florida QB Tim Tebow. Check out the full transcripts...

On if he had an inkling that the Broncos were going to draft him
ďIt all started at the combine. I had an opportunity to do an interview with their staff and I left thinking ĎGosh I love those guys, I love Coach McDaniels. Heís so passionate, he loves football.í After that they didnít come to the Pro day and I didnít hear from them and I thought, ĎMan, are they not interested?í But then at the end they called me up and so I came up and I did a work out for them and I thought that went really good and we thought they liked me and were very straightforward the whole time and said that they were interested in me. So we prepared as thought I was their draft pick. So we had the hats ready and when Coach McDaniels called we pulled them out and weíre wearing our pride right now.Ē

On how he dealt with criticism of his throwing mechanics
ďA lot of people said it was going to be a hard process or a long process and that it was going to be very frustrating for me but I loved it and I enjoyed the working process. All the critics and negativity only pushed me that much more and made me work that much harder and made me better. I think that was a positive thing for me, to be honest with you. I believed in myself and the people that were around me and supporting me. I thank my quarterback coaches for the work that they put in and trying to constantly get better. Not only get better but show that I was coachable, to be humble and learn to do what someone says and I think that is something that I tried to show and I think I showed that to Coach McDaniels and the staff there.Ē

On how long he thinks it will take for him to start in the Broncosí system
ďI have no idea. Thatís not even something that Iím thinking about. Iím thinking about just going in there and learning the offense, competing, working hard and just being the first one in and the last one to leave. And showing them that I love this, I love what I do and thank you so much for taking me and Iím not going to let you down.Ē

On what number he plans to wear (possibly 15?)
ďTo be honest, I will wear whatever number they want me to wear. If thatís 15, Iíll wear 15. If thatís 95, Iíll wear 95. I donít really care, just as long as I can wear a Denver Broncos jersey. Thatís my approach and my attitude.Ē

On Josh McDaniels taking a chance on him
ďI definitely want to repay Coach McDaniels for the faith he showed in me. I want to be a great quarterback, I want to pursue that. Iíve wanted to be a quarterback in the NFL for a great many years. Thatís my goal and has been my goal since I was 6 years old. Iím going to do whatever it takes to get there. Iím thankful to Coach McDaniels for having the strength and the voice in me, to choose me and to believe in me. Iím just thankful for that and obviously I do, for the next few years, repay him for what he did for me and believing in me. Just like it was when I was at Florida, my biggest thrill was doing things for Coach Meyer, winning championships and being able to help him. Thatís going to be my greatest joy in Denver is going to be to repay Coach McDaniels for believing in me. Thatís something thatís always been very important to me, is my relationship with coaches. Our connection means more to me than anything else.Ē

On His service work off the field and how he will balance that with football
ďI want to do a lot because I honestly feel that that is more important than playing football. Being able to make a difference and put smiles on kidsí faces. Iím excited about the opportunity but I probably wonít do that much right now because this whole summer Iím going to be in the film room and in the meeting room, learning, working and grinding. Iíll probably start that after my rookie year. I do have my foundation up and running, the good thing about that is that my brother and other members of my family can really help out and run that while I get to working on football.Ē

Speaks well. Humble. Seems to want to learn. Trying hard.

I do like that in him.

I wonder how many players that were the first to arrive and last to leave still have short NFL careers. I'm sure there are, but those that are great always have this said about them.

He's the man.
I, just like everyone else that follows football, heard every negative about Tebow, that the guy can't play QB, that he should be drafted to play FB, TE and all kind of ridiculous diatribes about the guy. Yet, I never bought what they were selling.
I believe what I see. To me the most important attribute in Tebow is his heart, his willingness to learn and the intangibles that you can't teach.
If his mechanics was his downside, I'll take that over a guy with no passion for the game.
It's a whole lot easier to train and teach a player with a good attitude, than trying to improve a good player with a crappy attitude.

Welcome to Denver Touchdown Jesus!!!

I am on record now stating, I back and love the passion and kind of person Tim Tebow is.

I have been a die hard Florida Gator fan for 20+ years. I have followed Tim since day one and have nothing but the highest reguard for him. He will bring passion like no other and a work ethic that will rival Rod Smiths. This kid is class all the way and I expect nothing less with him in a Denver uniform.

Great job get'n it done coach.

It's day one of the Tebow era. Maybe its the initial shock of a player they didnt want, a perceived "reach," or maybe they didnt like what we gave up for him with other holes to fill. I think a lot of negative opinions change when they see what this guy is really about on and off the field. Dude is a winner and a leader of men. The kind of guy you want running your huddle.

Youre probably loving this then.

I'm a huge Sam Bradford guy, having been a Sooners fan for my entire life, and he represents the same things in Oklahoma. I would have loved for Sam to join the Broncos so that I knew I was getting to pull for a great player in more respects than one.

Tebow's pretty impressive. He'll be fun to pull for. If he fails, it wont be for lack of trying.

I really liked Tebow and wanted us to draft him. I dont know if im too happy about the 1st round, but we got another 1st round pick (the WR I wanted too!) and still have a 2nd and two 3rds. If we walk away from 1st 3 rounds with a QB, WR, OL, DL, and a LB ill be happy as hell.

They seem to be going for character (Thomas over Dez Bryant, Tebow over Clausen)... people will rag them, but I can see what they are doing here and I like it.

that is what I am saying...I don't like all that we gave up, but if the kid is half as good as he seems...wow

seriously, he has the kind of attitude a QB needs in Denver, takes criticism and works harder instead of getting flustered and jerky

because in Denver, QB will be the most criticized position there is (aside from coach)

My issue is the price to get him more than the pick itself.

Honestly I think he has as good a chance for success at QB as any high draft pick which is why I can't be angry. But it is frustrating to not have the linemen we need yet.

He's a good athlete and nobody will ever be able to question his work ethic and dedication. Manning has built himself a HoF career through intellectual domination of the game. Hopefully Tebow can develop some of that same skill.

I think the only way Tebow busts is if he's just one of those guys that doesn't have "it" like Couch, Leaf, or Russel. I think it's a coin flip at this point. We're either going to get a highly athletic QB that will be good to great or a complete bust.
