Likelihood the Broncos Trade for a Veteran

I was reading this, and he mentioned how Jared Gaither or Jammal Brown might be moved during the draft. Is there any chance the Broncos might just trade for one of them and move him to Guard a la Leonard Davis?

Which begs the further question; What are the chances the Broncos trade for a veteran during the draft? If so, who do you think we'll go for?

Why he might be traded: He's been a colossal bust in Denver, but some teams still think they might be able to bring out the pass rush prowess that Moss flashed as a Florida Gator.
Where he might be traded: Oakland, Cincinnati.
Likelihood of trade taking place and possible value: 40%, 7th Round.

But, hey... let's get back to crying about losing 15 draft spots this year for A. Smith. That's a much bigger deal than a top 20 guy netting you a 7th round pick a couple years later.

I don't think we'll trade for a veteran player unless the coaches know him well. So, if a guy like Morrisson is available then I could see that possibly happening, though not until day two or three.

It sounds like Osi Umenyiora might be shopped. The Eagles are asking about him. What are some thoughts about him being packaged in the 11 for 15 deal? Can he make the switch to a 3-4?

there are busts every single year. it's guaranteed. guess what doesn't happen every year, or really ever? trading 1st round picks for 2nd round picks. 14 for 37. When the first 13 picks are down, try to tell me that there aren't at least 10 players you'd rather have than Smith that are still on the board.

I just realized... that comment by popps was completely unprovoked, the Smith move was never even mentioned... i think someone has finally cracked under the pressure of constantly defending his man.

You can debate the merits of trading future picks for current picks, but you can't say that Denver's the only team that's done this recently. Over the last 3 drafts, there have been 6 trades involving 1st round picks in the following draft. 3 of these have been future 1sts for a current 2nd (exactly what the Broncos did last year), and the other three have included future 1sts + additional picks for late-1sts.

2007:
Cleveland trades #36 and 2008 1st to Dallas for #22
SF trades #110 and 2008 1st to NE for #28
Indy trades #126 and 2008 1st to SF for #43

2008:
Carolina trades #43, #109, and 2009 1st to Philly for #19

2009:
Denver trades 2010 1st to Seattle for #37
Carolina trades 2010 1st to SF for #43 and #111

A guy you can't give away after 2 seasons that you took at #20 is a bigger disaster than losing 15-20 draft slots for a player who still may very well be a contributor.

Point is, if we're going to wad our panties up our arses, maybe we should wonder why the cupboard is bare, and we're having to re-tool most of this team the past two seasons.

Why? Picks like Moss.

So, maybe when the current admit tries something different, we can wait and see if it pans out before we **** ourselves. Again, it's not as if we've had any success building a real franchise over the past decade through the draft OR free agency.
