Default Does Denver need to draft a TE now?

With the trade of Tony Scheffler, do the Broncos need more of a receiving specialist to complement Daniel Graham and Richard Quinn?

Quinn has the athleticism and measureables to be an asset in the passing game, but until he proves otherwise, I don't think it's fair to expect too much from him in that regard.

If Greshem is there DEFINITELY. Otherwise, I'll take Gronkowski/Hernandez in the 3rd if they're there.

I do think receiving TE could help this offense though.

I like this guy:

Dorin Dickerson, Pittsburgh
Height: 6-1. Weight: 226.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Combine 40 Time: 4.40.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical: 43. Arm: 34.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

3/20/10: Dorin Dickerson didn't run at his Pro Day; he performed in the drills and looked very solid.

2/28/10: Mike Mayock gushed over Dorin Dickerson throughout the Saturday workouts, stating that Dickerson "can't drop below the second round." Dickerson is a 225-pound tight end, but he's a dynamic athlete (4.40 40, 43-inch vertical) and an underrated blocker. He'll probably be in the Round 3-4 range.

10/10/09: As Pittsburgh's goal-line back, Dorin Dickerson has six touchdowns on 20 carries through five games.

2/6/09: In his college career, Dorin Dickerson has played wide receiver, fullback, tight end and linebacker. They talked about having him as hot dog salesman, but that didn't pan out. Dickerson caught 13 balls for 174 yards and two touchdowns as a junior.

I would not mind Dorin Dickerson from Pitt if he is there in the 3rd round. He ran a 4.4 at the combine, dude can fly for a TE. Not much of a blocker, but then again has only played the position for two years. He could cause some major match-up problems against LBs.

Depends a bit on how Branson has developed in the off year. Can probably get a UDFA or late rounder like Bynham. Broncos will need some camp-fodder no matter what

He was a 2nd round pick after all!

We won't draft one that isn't good at blocking.

Well, like I said, he has only played TE for two seasons, so it could be a technique issue. Plus, the article above referred to him as an "underrated" blocker. Also, I'm not sure that it was so much Scheffler's blocking issues as it was his attitude that didn't curry favor with McD. I think McD could find use for a potential mismatch nightmare like Dorrin. He used Ben Watson in NE, and he is an average blocker at best.

Well just looking at how the Pats used their TE's and how we used ours last season picking a TE in the first three rounds would be silly. Scheffler was targeted 50 times and Graham was targeted 36 times. Graham ran about 957 plays and Scheffler ran 555.

I think we need someone to pick up Scheffler's void I really do just not that early.

If McD doesn't plan on expanding the TE role under any circumstances, you are right. But maybe McD would expand the role of a guy who he had more confidence in.

Don't want to touch a tight end within the first four selections.

Anything is possible. I agree that we need to grab one I just think we will get one that is already more polished in the blocking department. McD will give Quinn a chance to prove his worth too.

Personally I think the Pats like bigger TE's. Graham is 6-3 255, Quinn is 6-4 250, Watson 6-3 255, and David Thomas 6-3 248. I think we will look for a player that fits that mold more.

Denver needs all the offensive help it can get:

1. Best OL in the draft
2. Best WR left
2. Best TE left
3. Toby Gerhart(sp?)

Denver bolstered their defense with FA and now they need to score points...

I'd look for HEAVY offense at the skill positions in the draft.

Dear God, I weight 226 lbs. Please don't draft a TE that weighs 226 lbs - I don't care how fast he is.

We need maulers on the line, or WR's, not second round TE's. Please no.
