Adopt-a-Bronco:
Von Miller
Default Mock Draft 3.0

Updated for the Scheffler trade, should be final version:

1- Dan Williams NT Tennessee

I still really like McClain and think he'd have a more immediate impact, but our d line needs to get younger. Having someone waiting in the wings learning from Jamal would be wise. Williams could rotate in, keeping the vets fresh as a rookie and develop into the starter. Could probably play some end as well. I really think this pick is front 7, and Williams might be the best player on their board at 11.

2A- Demaryius Thomas WR Georgia Tech

I felt we had one of the best and deepest groups of receivers in the league. Losing Marshall obviously changes that, as its now a weakness. We have some excellent support players, but we are a number 1 receiver away from having that status back. Hopefully Thomas can be the guy.

2B- Vladimir Ducasse G/T UMass

Moving to a power blocking scheme full time, we need size on the interior. Ducasse has the flexibility to play inside or RT should Harris get injured. Could start at LG right away. John Jerry and Jon Asamoah could also be strong possibilities

3- J.D. Walton C Baylor

Probably our biggest need position right now, Walton is a tough, physical presence that would also be counted on to start right away. Most scouts rank him no.2 in the class, and he'd fit in well. I'd love Pouncey, but I don't see that happening unless we can trade back

4- Brandon Spikes ILB Florida

Spikes falls due to lacks in speed and production. A 2 down backer. However, he could be a steal in the 4th round. With Davis gone, this is a depth pick that could turn into a starter next to D.J.

5- Trindon Holliday KR LSU

Electric game changing speed, but doesn't project to much more than a return specialist. Drafting him allows Royal to focus solely on being a receiver and would hopefully turn our woeful kick and punt return game around

6- Brandon Deaderick DE Alabama

6-4 314. Played 3-4 at Alabama. Wasn't very productive, but was also recovering from a gun shot wound. Adding a young prospect with upside at the 5 technique is important.

If this draft happened we'd be a much better team. Our existing skill players would vastly improve by having better players protecting them. Getting a big time LG and C would do wonders for Knowshon. We add depth to the front 7. All feedback welcome, but keep in mind this is a straight forward draft, no trades. I'd love to trade back, but projecting trades is too much of a crap shoot. Just using our current selections, if the draft was today. Go Broncos

I like it...except for the Ducasse pick. I'm on board with each of the other picks, but just don't think Thomas, Walton, Spikes, or Deaderick fall that far. The value's not way off on any of them, and I wouldn't be surprised to see one (maybe two) of them available where you have them selected, but for all 4 of these guys to be around that late seems like a pretty big stretch.

You know, I think I would rather have Dez at 11 but if this were our draft I sure would be happy. Oh and no way Pouncey falls out of the first...

I recommend this page on PFW that gives, imo, a pretty good idea of where players are slotted a week before the draft: http://www.profootballweekly.com/201...-value-chart-3

For instance:
Demaryius Thomas is slotted 1B - approximately pick 12-22.
Duccase is slotted 1C - likley the end of the first round.
JD Walton is interestiingly not predicted until round 5
You have Spikes in round 4, and they project him late 2nd.

Is PFW perfect on this? Of course not - there are always surprises, but I have found them to be pretty accurate in the past. Sure I like the players you have going to the Broncos, I just don't expect several key ones you listed to be available where you have them slotted.

I'd be really surprised if Thomas and Duccasse go that high. That chart has Thomas being the first WR taken, before Dez. I don't see that happening either. But we will see. Spikes was a late 2nd round prospect before he ran. He dropped his stock. Thomas could go before we pick in the 2nd and Spikes could go before we pick in the 4th, but there is a chance both players are there.

Just my personal opinion, but I will be shocked if Thomas is there at 43. Duccasse on the other hand, could be. He's so raw - frankly I'm not sure why so many people have fallen for him, but maybe they see things I don't.

I was surprised when I saw PFW's chart having Spikes go in the late 2nd. I agree that it's unusual for a LB that runs a 5.0 to be selected in the draft, much less anywhere close to that high.

I want McClain with our 1st & Terrance cody with our 1st pisk in the 2nd round.
www.draftcountdown.com/sub/Mock-Draft-A.php

This mock hasn't been updated but it has cody available at 43.

Wow. Freaking perrrrfect mock my man!

Love Ducasse/ Thomas in 2nd. If we decide to go Dez at all, then we can still grab Cody or another DT later in the draft. JD Walton would be a dream come true as well.

No way Spikes drops to the 4th? His pro day hurt him but not that much (i think...)

I really like McClain, and if he is our first round pick I will definitely embrace it. My original mock had us taking him. I just think Williams plays a more premium position and could ultimately have a bigger payoff down the road when Jamal is done, whereas McClain would contribute more at first but at a position that isn't quite as vital.

WalterFootball.com has Spikes going to Dallas in the 4th, which is after our pick. I know they are not the end all authority, just pointing out that some scouting sites have him falling that far. I think if he is still on the board in the 4th round and we have not yet filled that SILB spot, we have to strongly consider getting him.

If he's on the board in the 4th and we haven't already picked up an ILB, I think you HAVE to take him. Realistically though, I think he's a 3rd round prospect. I felt Walton would be hard-pressed to make it round 3, but looking at the PFW rankings, they have him as a 5th.

This draft may be much more realistic by swapping the Spikes and Walton picks, and maybe grabbing Tate or Benn instead of Thomas with that 2nd rounder. You'd still be addressing the same needs (with almost the same players) but the value would be much closer.

Updated after Scheffler trade. Decided to just move the Holliday and Deaderick picks up a round each, maybe better reflecting value. Considered using the 5th on Beadles or Selvie, but just kept the players I had.

Nice mock, I still think Denver will add tight end and they only brought one in to look at ,Gronkowski,. He should be sitting there with 2A pick.

Denver Post reported it today.

Other intriguing players who fit the Broncos' mold at the position include Miami's Jimmy Graham (6-6, 260 pounds), a former basketball player with quality down-the-field skills. There's Arizona's Ron Gronkowski (6-6, 261), a top-rated player who is a bit of a medical concern because he missed the 2009 season after having back surgery. The Broncos had Gronkowski in for a predraft visit.

Benn or Tate at 2A could be good alternates, Jamar Chaney or Pat Angerer at 4

I definitely thought about that, but McD doesn't use the tight end much in his offense. I figure they spent a 2nd round pick on one last year, so hopefully Quinn can have a bigger role this year in support of Graham

love it....agree with you about rather having McClain @ 11. Then go DT in round 4...maybe Troup, Cam Thomas or Joseph.
