Default Cop in Roethlisberger case resigns...

ATLANTA -- The Georgia police officer who took the first report from the woman who accused Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault has resigned.

Milledgeville police Chief Woodrow Blue on Friday confirmed that Sgt. Jerry Blash resigned Wednesday, a day before the Georgia Bureau of Investigation made public all documents related to its investigation of a 20-year-old woman's claim that Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her.

Prosecutors announced earlier this week that they are not charging Roethlisberger in the March 5 incident. Blash is the only officer who interviewed the quarterback. He acknowledged in an interview with investigators that he made some derogatory comments about the accuser to other officers.

Multiple calls to a phone number listed for Blash went unanswered.

A little more than a week after the alleged assault was reported, photos surfaced online of Roethlisberger smiling alongside Blash. Blue said the photos were taken hours before the allegation was made.

Blue said on March 12 that beyond filing the report, Blash was not involved in the investigation.

Also revealed in the GBI reports released Thursday was the fact investigators wanted to talk with a woman about a separate incident reportedly involving Roethlisberger.

The documents show that after the alleged assault in Milledgeville, a 16-year-old in a youth law enforcement program told authorities he knew about incidents involving Roethlisberger and a friend's sister.

Authorities repeatedly sought to interview the woman, who is in her early 20s, but she declined. The teen had said he believed the two-time Super Bowl winner twice made unwanted sexual advances toward the woman.

A message seeking comment about the possible earlier incidents was left with his lawyer. In the meantime, the fallout continues to affect the Steelers, this time in the pocketbook. The behavior of Roethlisberger and former Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes might result in a fine by the NFL of as much as $200,000.

Holmes, traded Sunday to the New York Jets, is suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy, and has been involved in a number of incidents that put him in a bad light.

The more details that come out, the more I'm becoming convinced that the league is going to come down hard on Rapistberger.

He had his picture taken with the accused and made derogatory comments about the accuser. So even if this cop did everything else right, and if the case went to prosecution the defense could have a field day creating reasonable doubt because of the cop's commentary and his buddy buddyness with Ben.

Yeah, I have a feeling that he won't be a Steeler next year either. Some of this stuff is just completely off putting, I don't know if I would put up with it as a fan if it happened to a Broncos QB.

Witnesses say he had his bodyguards drag this chick into a room and then block everyone else while he and the girl were in there... she's claiming she told him "no" repeatedly...

It is so, so bad. I hope he gets suspended... for more than 2 games.

I imagine it was a resign or your fired kind of deal due to the PR backlash from his lack of professionalism getting out while investigating this.

Well, it appears that R is a real scumbag. Too much more and
the Rooneys may just cut him outright....at which point does the
League suspend him , and for how long?

I guess that can't happen until he at least gets charged with something
but it doesn't look good for R to play a full season next year.

I guess money can't ALWAYS buy silence.

You know what, EVEN if it was consenting and mutual sex, the fact that these idiots obstructed anyone else from the bathroom just reeks of bad judgement. At that point, consentual sex does not matter.

What a complete baffoon.

Damn, dude is disgusting. The more you learn about this stuff the more you come away feeling he basically got away with rape. How could you cheer for this guy? I know alot of players have suspect backgrounds but if this guy was on the Broncos roster I would stop watching. I just couldn't live with myself supporting someone so heinous.

Because it can reasonable be argued the cop deterred an investigation, hence aiding in Ben's sexual assualt.

Hopefully the Steeler fan base feels the same and lets it be known.

Too bad he didn't get arrested in New York City. The PD would have 'handled' it.

I will again caution everyone: Most of what has come out has come from the typical gossip mongers. The type of folks who have a long and glorious history of pushing public opinion based more on hearsay than concrete facts.

I have no idea what happened, and it doesn't seem like anyone (outside of the two folks involved) do either. At best it's two drunk folks hooking up at a bar (which seems harmless enough to me) and at worst it's rape. Jumping to conclusions and publicly crucifying a guy seems unfair to me.

After all, remember the Duke Lacrosse team.
