Default Saints site mock draft...

Hey guys. I was the "GM" for Denver again this year over at SaintsReport(You may not remember me, but I actually polled the Mane last year for the picks). I just thought I'd share what I did, and get ya'lls reaction to it.

I was going to try to mimic what McDaniels might do, but realized that would be a complete exercise in futility. So I just went with who I thought would be the best value in each round, and players who would fit what it looks like the Broncos are looking to do. The draft results are here, and the actual draft can be found here. I'mnot really sure where ya'll are heading this year; there are quite a few unsettled areas on your team. But I really wish the Broncos the best, and I hope for an entertaining season for you the fans.

Seems like you did your homework pretty well -- the McClain/Ducasse two-step is extremely plausible, as are Mitchell and Miles. No chance in hell on Curran, though, as we already have an undersized scrappy linebacker (Woodyard), and Corey Peters is a bit of a reach in the 6th -- there must have been better DTs available.

That being said, I think I'd give you a B+ on that draft -- and congratulations to your Saints on winning the SuperBowl. Everyone in the nation (except Indianapolians) were rooting for you, and were glad to see you win.

Looks pretty good. First 3 picks are solid, don't know as much about the next 4. Nice work!

I'd rather Micah Johnson or Brandon spikes at MLB and take Thomas/Williams/Iupati/Pouncey (possibly trade down for last 2)

Add in Walton with our new second and it's an "A-" IMO!

Thanks. I know what you're saying, but I love Curran. I like Woodyard, but Curran is going to be one of those Zach Thomas/Sam Mills players who will help a team regardless of who is in front of him on the depth chart. Plus, I'm a UGA homer, so I had to take him. Almost regardless of what team I was drafting for.

Nothing like brutal honesty.

I'll share my reasons as to why each pick was made, in an effort to assuage your hatred of me. I kid, I kid.

McClain- Just a no brainer IMHO. It is like he and Denver's 3-4 are soulmates.
Ducasse- Projects as a tackle, but I don't think he can play there in the NFL. I felt a guard with starting potential was a real need, and I liked him there in the 2nd.
Mitchell- I was going to take him or Jacoby Ford from Clemson, and Ford was drafted the pick prior to mine. Mitchell has a similar skill set as Marshall, but lacks the attitude. Not sure if he can replicate the 100 catches, but I think he contributes earlier than many think possible.
Curran- Not a need pick, but I just couldn't pass on him. Just an asset wherever he goes.
Peters- I know other players had higher grades according to most draft sites. But I watched him dominate the UGA and South Carolina offensive lines this year, and like the fact that he has been a consistant starter for 3 seasons in the SEC.
Miles- Will play on special teams, and provide depth.
Tepper- Highly regarded but injury prone. Worth a 7th round flyer at a need position.

Love the first 3 rounders. Mitchell is going to be a good.

McClain is probably going to be Denver's pick, unless they go Bryant now with Marshall gone

Love the Ducasse pick, Mitchell might be good value there. Pretty much hate the rest. Hate McClain @#11.

The more I look at it, I am starting to like the idea of Draft Spikes in the 2nd or 3rd. He is not fast, but he is nasty and lays the wood(in a good way, not like Big Ben).

A lot of us, me included, just don't like McClain.

I'd much rather have Micah Johnson, or Brandon Spikes.

I just cannot justify the McClain pick. It's too much money to a ILB. Spikes can do everything McClain does at a 3rd round price tag.

I like it a lot, although I admit I'm not familiar with the later round picks outside of Peters. Unlike some, I believe McClain will be a game changer for he Bronco defense, that is, he will add that one ingredient that will make our 'D' explosive and threatening a la Al Wilson. I really hope we land him.
