Default Broncos' Scheffler will sign tender, clearing way for trade

Tony Scheffler will sign his tender today, a transaction formality that transfers the Broncos' tight end from restricted free agency to the trading block.

Brandon Marshall, the Broncos' No. 1 receiver, signed his $2.512 million tender Tuesday and was traded today to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for second-round picks in the 2010 and 2011 drafts.

Scheffler will sign his $1.176 million tender today with the understanding the Broncos need to control his rights before they can trade him.

The Broncos hope to get a third-round pick in return for Scheffler, whose 13.7 yards per catch tops all tight ends since he came into the league in 2006.

If we manage to get a 3rd rounder for Scheffler I will eat my hat.

Seattle or Cleveland maybe? That'd be a high 3rd too. I'd be very happy with a 3rd

I would assume that they already had a deal set up with another team. I'm sure the news regarding Scheffler's destination will be out shortly.

And considering that he's not very good at playing tight end.

Yeah, if Holmes and Marshall landed 5th and 2nd round picks, there is no way we get a 3rd for Scheffler.

Hells yes. People just need to stop thinking of him as a receiver. Maybe on some gimmicky screens or something, but mostly we'd have ourselves a dedicated returner.

That's what I'm thinking. I don't see it happening, but I hope I'm wrong. I'm thinking late rounder all the way.

I put this in the other thread...

In 2 drafts McD will have drafted:

3- #1's
5- #2's
3- #3's
2- #4's
3- #5's
2- #6's
3- #7's

Add to that anything we get for scheffler... That's a ****load of picks.

Santonio Holmes is facing a 4 game suspension.

But your point is valid. If we get a 3rd rounder...opens up a lot of possibilities in this draft.

Everyone MCD has traded or is about to trade has been pretty productive for this offense. I really don't know what to think. Go Broncos, whoever is out there.

Sheffler for a solid return man would be awesome IMO. He can also help stretch the field, and maybe open up some for Eddie.

Everyone he's traded has also been a massive p***Y who doesn't want to play for the Broncos (Hillis excluded, as far as I know). Don't worry guy, this is better for the team.

I like the idea of McD looking ahead to the 2011 draft by getting an extra 2nd for Marshall. I'd like to see McD go ahead and take a 2011 3rd for Schef instead of getting a 5th this year. I just don't see us getting a 3rd or 4th pick this year for him. The 2011 pick has less value, until next year comes, then the value goes back up.
