@movethestick Here's an odd stat: in the Broncos 8 wins last year, Marshall didn't have a single 100 yd game
we are better when the ball gets passed around to the entire team. say what you want about marshall drawing coverage etc, but the fact is when the ball gets distributed more, it opens up for everyone, including the running game. |

I looked at the 8 wins to see how "spread" around the ball really was...
Game 1: 8 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 4 catches. Game 2: 8 players had a catch. Stokley led all with 5 catches. Game 3: 5 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 5 catches. Game 4: 7 players had a catch. Buckhalter led all with 5 catches. Game 5: 6 players had a catch. Royal led all with 10 catches. Game 6: 6 players had a catch. Scheffler led all with 6 catches. Game 7: 7 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 6 catches. Game 8: 5 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 7 catches. In the losses... Game 1: 8 players had a catch. Buckhalter led all with 6 catches. Game 2: 7 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 11 catches. Game 3: 5 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 5 catches. Game 4: 8 players had a catch. Royal led all with 4 catches. Game 5: 5 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 21 catches. Game 6: 7 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 7 catches. Game 7: 7 players had a catch. Marshall led all with 8 catches. Game 8: 6 players had a catch. Gaffney led all with 14 catches. It's hard to really read anything into this. One thing that did hurt in the losses was Marshall's inability to break tackles/create after the catch. Loss 1: 4 Catches for 24 Yards Loss 2: 11 Catches for 112 Yards (Good Day) Loss 3: 5 Catches for 134 Yards (Great Day) Loss 4: 3 Catches for 26 Yards Loss 5: 21 Catches for 200 Yards (The catches are impressive but he had a 9.5 YPR) Loss 6: 7 Catches for 73 Yards (Solid Day) Loss 7: 8 Catches for 39 Yards Loss 8: DNP. Worth noting is Gaffney was 14 for 213 Yards (15.2 YPR) despite a long of merely 29. |
