Interesting.
This could be the turning point of what lies ahead for Marshall...

Report: Brandon Marshall, Broncos to talk today

Posted by Mike Florio on April 13, 2010 9:24 AM ET
With the Pittsburgh Steelers giving Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes to the Jets for a fifth-round draft pick only eight days after Donovan McNabb fetched a second-rounder and a 2011 third- or fourth-rounder for the Eagles, the Denver Broncos need to be reconsidering their position that they want only a first-round pick for receiver Brandon Marshall.

Whatever the Broncos have decided, they'll apparently be communicating it to Marshall today. Per Josina Anderson of FOX 31 in Denver, the Broncos and Marshall will meet Tuesday to discuss the future.

It could be that the Broncos have decided to bring back Marshall for 2010, if/when he chooses to ink his restricted free agency tender. Or it could be that the Broncos want him to sign the tender so that they'll be able to trade him on a moment's notice during the draft, if a good opportunity arises.

Or it could be that they want to get him to sign the tender so that they can keep him, but that they'll simply tell him they want the tender to be signed and ready in the event that a trade opportunity arises.

Either way, recent developments have thrown a large wrench into the team's plans. At the end of the 2009 season, there were strong signs that a trade was inevitable. Now, it's anyone's guess as to whether Marshall will be returning for a fifth season with the team.

If a #1 is really off the table, then they better figure out how to keep him.

I'd like to hear some news. Could be a bluff to make teams who are interested in Marshall think that we're working on putting together a long term deal. Or maybe it really is to try to put together a long term deal.

Does seattle even have a 2nd rounder? I hope we keep him unless we can get something that can help us this year.

Things will potentially get real ugly if they choose to reward him with a long term deal before approaching Doom IMO. I can't see this as being a real possibility just yet.

I have a question. A couple of posters yesterday were referencing a story that the team leaders met with Josh last season to request that marshall be suspended for the final game. This is the first I heard that the team leaders approached Josh to suspend marshall. Anyone have an article explaining this.

I think that an actual deal is the least likely scenario here.

With the recent talk about GMs thinking he'll only fetch a 2nd, I think it makes sense to offer up the illusion that there may be a deal in the works in order to make teams think that it's a 1st or he's staying in Denver.

Doom has nothing to do with it. He'll get paid, and he won't whine if the Broncos ink Marshall first. He isn't Cutler after all.

Absolutely! What kind of message would that send? This has got to be a "sign the tender" meeting. Whether he is traded or we keep him that needs to be done. He has had his time to find a team willing to part with a first for him.

IIRC They didn't single Marshall out specifically. They just told him that they though some players had been mailing it in the previous games and practices and they thought there should be more accountability.

Briefing: Benching of Marshall came after Broncos' veterans requested accountability

I think this is what it is. Adam will be talking about a possible trade on ESPN later so maybe something is close to being done.

And you "know" this how?

How come is it that your "knowledge" is tainted by your hate for the Broncos?
