So basically, these extremists are unhappy about homosexuality and they take it out on people who are going to funerals for people who died serving in the military (wtf?).

I would love to see people show up en masse at the funerals of Westboro people. Imagine if Fred Phelps died and people showed up and had a huge gay disco party at his funeral. I think that would be awesome.

Agreed - it seems like the people who are so vocal about their opposition to homosexuality eventually get exposed as homos themselves.

I've got no problem with homos in the military as long as they keep their sexuality to themselves. No flamboyant ****. No flirting. If you like dick or want to give another man dick, do it at home. Protesting a marine that died because he's gay is beyond comprehension. It makes no ****ing sense. Quite pathetic.

They dont protest gay soldiers. They go to funerals of any dead soldiers. Their connection is "god kills american soldiers to punish the US for 'harboring gays'". Ridiculous. Absolute garbage.

This the soldier's website, http://www.matthewsnyder.org/ ... although Bill O'Reilly picked up the $16,500 or so, estimates are that their court costs will eventually reach $60,000.

I just hope the Supreme Court comes up with a more reasonable ruling. What the 4th Circuit of Appeals did is a disgusting tragedy.

Although I applaud Mr. O'Reilly for his assistance, this defeats his purpose. ND has barred these people from picketing funerals, and a handful of other states have followed. These people are best ignored and left to their own. The more they are ignored, the more they will have to escalate their efforts. When they do that it will no longer be free speech. I know that it sickens me that the very freedoms that we serve to protect get turned against us in ignorant ways. Before they were banned from picketing funerals in ND the Patriot riders would rev their engines so the ignorant wouldn't be heard. And in many states the cases where confrontation have been issues, it has been Patriot riders or another pro military bike group as the intermediary. I have also heard of several cases where Police Chiefs have said that if they set foot in their town that they will put them in jail from the time that the funeral is scheduled and hold them for anything under the sun that they can imagine until it is done. That is what started the ban in ND.

I'm a Marine, so I empathize with the Snyder family. I think there may be grounds for disallowing the WBC group from demonstrating due to their hateful and inciteful speech. But the courts of the land aren't ruling based on decency or tastefullness, they rule on constitutionality. There is a 1st Amendment principle at stake here. I won't lose any sleep if Phelps is squelched forever, but it will make me wonder what the new standard of acceptable speech in the eyes of the courts will be.
