Broncos express interest in Mawae Posted: March 22nd, 2010 | Jason La Canfora | Tags: 2010 Free Agency, Denver Broncos, Kevin Mawae The Denver Broncos have expressed some interest in Pro Bowl C Kevin Mawae, according to a league source. Denver lost center Casey Wiegmann in free agency, and though the team is looking to get younger at that position, Mawae is a possibility and there has been contact between the sides. Mawae has the option of returning to the Titans as well, in what would likely be a depth role. Despite his age he made it through 2009 injury free and was voted to another Pro Bowl, but the interest in him has been limited to this point. http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/03/22/bron...medium=twitter |

I would approve of this. Especially if we draft a center later in the draft. Mawae would be a great tutor.

I'd like this. I think we will draft a center or continue to groom Olsen for the role. I fail to see the downside.

He would make some nice depth but we still need to draft a C and OG.

This and then draft Jeff byers out of USC and Loveland. Totally blown away by his interview with Vic and Gary this morning. He has his MBA & seems to have the size to fill the role and wants to play for Denver.

There's nothing wrong with bringing Mawae in. OL rookies need time to develop.

Maybe 5 years ago.
I'd rather have someone young who will be around awhile. |

I'd rather sign a vet like Mawae and if a rook or Olsen beats him out so be it but to rely on a rook or Olsen with no real vet backup is playing with fire
So far we have zero centers on the team |

Would like to see this get done, along with drafting help, of course. Was actually hoping to hear this news.

The young guns we've been grooming on the O-line this past year or two have been groomed under a different coach (Dennison) with a whole different style of blocking (zone). I would not be optimistic were any of them asked to start in 2010 with just the offseason to adjust, unless they are actually guys who are better suited to the new style (which I don't think they are .
Mawae would be awesome becuase he would give us a solid vet to start while we groom some youngsters in the new style over the next year or two. He's probably not a long-term answer, but right now I think what we most need is a short-term answer anyway..... |

On a 1 or 2 year deal on an uncapped year, they better get a vet or the rest of the line is going to suffer. I would completely approve of this signing. I would not want to see a rookie starting for us in their first year...

Sign the wiley vet, draft a center to sit behind him a year or two or maybe have Olsen learn from him. Its not a lose/lose to pick up Mawae.

I'd like to see Mawae signed, then make a move into the 20's of the 1st round for Maurkice Pouncey. Hopefully Olsen can beat out Hochstein at LG and the OL would be at bit improved next year. In a perfect world, I'd like to bring in a beast at LG and improved depth at OT. Our OL was such trash last year, far worse than our DL in my opinion. If the OL can improve, we can run the ball more effectivly (I think a healthy Moreno behind an improved OL will be amazing) and protect our defense even better.
Man I'd love to see Pouncey, McClain, Iupati and Dan Williams in a Broncos uniform. Too bad we can't have them all! Oh well, I'm glad to see Xanders and McDaniels are making size and ability in the trenches a top priority. |

yes indeed but not too many centers are ready right off the bat. If not much interest and he wants to start, I think we can have him much cheaper than anticipated. Sure, draft a center later in the draft, but i would be listening to what his agent has to say.

It seems most teams, even Denver, are reluctant to put out an offer sheet for RFAs this season. So far only 2-3 have had offer sheets IIRC. in this uncapped season many player turned out RFA and not UFA like in a capped year.
Kevin is UFA just money NO draft picks. If other moves had been made and there were extra draft picks... I'd be in favor of putting out an offer sheet for some young linemen. |

Ben Hamilton is still on the team and was the backup center. He might not be the best OG option, but he might be the center. If they sign Mawae that's fine with me. Denver is certainly a bit thin along the OL right now. It's gonna be interesting to see who they draft.
