Default Quinn vs Clausen

Does anyone know if McD is friends with Weis?

Bray Quinn 6'3", 235 lbs.
Stats Overview Passing
YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2004 191 353 2586 54.1 7.33 54 17 10 25 125.87
2005 292 450 3919 64.9 8.71 80 32 7 21 158.40
2006 289 467 3426 61.9 7.34 62 37 7 31 146.65

Jimmy Clausen 6'3", 223 lbs.
Stats Overview Passing
YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2007 138 245 1254 56.3 5.12 44 7 6 35 103.85
2008 268 440 3172 60.9 7.21 69 25 17 21 132.49
2009 289 425 3722 68.0 8.76 88 28 4 24 161.43

So, I really feel like the decision to make this trade came down to who is better. Looking just at their stats at ND, running the same system as us...Quinn was better, especailly his Junior season which was his first year with Weiss and learning the new system.

The starting job will not be given to him, but I like his chances.

I do like the trade because now it truly frees up our first pick to be the BPA...whether that is Rolondo Mclain, Dez Bryant or someone else. This team stills needs help on the O line, but is looking solid.

Yeah I agree. At first I got nervous about what we traded for Quinn, but this trade seriously makes the most sense possible. Hillis lovers need to get it through their head he was a FB struggling to get on the field.

If Quinn sucks, no big deal. Cheaper than Simms, much better, and competes with Orton, who I still think wins the job.

I feel like Quinn will be the quarterback of the future though, and will be molded by McD. Most of Shanny's players are gone now...Shefler is about out the door too. Clady is here to stay though!!!

If Orton wins the starting job, do we count out Brandstater as the second string though?

I think Quinn is more of a top, and Clausen is a bottom

I watched every game Quinn and Clausen played at Notre Dame. Clausen has, IMO, the stronger and more accurate arm but Quinn has better leadership skills and is more athletic. Quinn had a better situation with a decent running game throughout his career while Clausen had virtually no running game until this past season and always played with a horrible defense.

the only Shanahan guys I think are completely safe and eventually used extensively with McDaniels are Clady, Harris(injuries overlooked right now), Royal, and Larsen.

Clady and Harris for obvious reasons

Royal because he has way too much talent, is way to versatile, and if used properly can put together seasons like Desean Jackson did last season, also with the eventual retirement or flat out release of Stokley he is a great candidate to make the move to the slot and put up Wes Welker numbers.

Larsen, because the dude is just a flat out football player. he will do whatever you ask, offense, defense, special teams. also the fact that our ST sucked while he was out with injury was a pretty telling endorsement of how big a part of the coverage units he was

everyone else, is open for discussion in terms of possible trade or release if the money doesn't preclude that from happening

i think you can count on Brandstater being nothing more than the guy who brings Orton and Quinn glasses of water and carried their helmets back to their lockers after practice. he has no shot of ever being more than an emergency option

1. Who cares whether Quinn or Brandstater is #2
2. Brandstater is a project, even if he's 3rd string this year it still doesn't mean much at this point.

Clausen the Matt Damon lookalike, Quinn the Brad Pitt lookalike. Imagine if LA got a team.
