i just found this, for anyone whos phone uses mp3s as their ringtones (all smartphones and most other phones), just do this:
1. play song you want in itunes 2. right click the song, press Get Info 3. click the options tab 4. check start time/end time boxes 5. type in the time of the song you want (i.e 1:00-1:35), ringtones typically about 30-40 seconds 6. press ok 7. highlight that song in itunes, go to the advanced menu bar, press "create mp3 version". itunes will take that section of the song and make it into a 30-40 second ringtone of the exact part of the song you wanted. 8. put it on your phone via either email or USB 9. never pay for ringtones again! i just made like 15 for my phone |

If you're on a Mac, you can also just pop them into Garageband to edit/export ringtones that way.

i still gotta stick with what i did, its so much easier to perform all this in a single window, and doing it my way takes less than a minute per song if you know teh section of song you want, without unnecessary programs.
rename the artists to "ringtones" and it will put all your ringtones into the same folder as well. |

Yep. It may not be the fastest method, but it's an easy way to zip around and choose what part of the song you want, with the visual wave-form reference. You can also batch import a bunch and do them at the same time.
I think it shoots them right over to iTunes, if I recall. Can't remember, but they definitely export as ringtones. |

Um... yeah. For more than two years, I've had a custom ringtone on my phone... made from an mp3 of my daughters singing.
Myxertones will "crop" your mp3... and I think you can also do the same thing with Audacity (which is free). |

I'm too old for cell phones. Anyone who needs to talk to me can rent a boat and sail up the river the old fashioned way.

I use this site for my ringtones.
http://www.myxer.com/make/ Just upload your song and highlight the part you want as ringtone (it usually pre-selects the best part of the song for you). Enter your number and that's it. |

I'm gonna go home and try this...I switched to straight talk (prepaid, but on verizon's network), and don't want to pay for ringtones. Haven't even TRIED hooking this thing up to my comp yet, but i CAN recieve pic messages. Maybe I can email one to myself if the interface doesn't work.
Thanks tsi ![]() |
