McDaniels said he loves him after the season. He is still under contract. I'm not sure what else there is to the situation.

The "news item" in the last few days

Quote:
What are your thoughts on Champ Bailey these days? He is getting long in the tooth and just doesn't seem to be as dominant as he was in the past. Would it make sense for the Broncos to trade him while he is still worth something?
-- Sean C., Chicago
Sean: Where to? Chicago? You want all the good Broncos, don't you?
I've been told my answers are too long. So, short and simple: The Broncos don't have anybody yet to replace Champ.
Alphonso Smith can't — now or maybe ever.
Champ is still one of the top half dozen corners in football. He's a great leader on this team, and a class act, and has a quality influence on the younger players.
And you couldn't get equal value in return because of his salary level.

I'm a little surprised he hasn't wanted out at this point.

Or asked to be traded, I'm sure he wants a ring and isn't getting any younger.

I'm not sure what the remainder of his contract is but I think it would be a good idea to extend the length and lower the yearly cap hit...

What cap hit? Not this year my friend. It's just Bowlins money at this point.

He has earned it. There is no cap to worry about and he has renegotiated his contract to help us with the cap before. I don't see why we wouldn't pay him now that there isn't a cap. He has played great and always had a team first attitude.

I'd prefer we extend him, and knock that number down.

You "eat" $13M if you'd rather spend that on someone who isn't on your roster, you "pay" someone $13M when he's still one of the best corners in the league and on your team.

No news is good news at this point, extending someone who is under contract this year isn't a top priority in Day 1 of FA.

there's no salary cap so extending his contract wouldn't matter

Why do we need to extend him and pay him less this year for that to happen?

Right, gotcha. I guess if Bowlen doens't mind the 13 mil hit on his wallet, then the number is fine by me. I do hope we extend him though... sooner than later.

Man, it must be nice to have 13 mil to pay a player in just a year. Must be nice to be that player too.
