Not a bad Price for a Mobile i7, there is only 1 other i7 you could move up to in a laptop (without going to the i7 mobile extreme series) and I haven't seen it in any flyers yet.
Did you compare the same system with Dell? I wonder if they are the same price or cheaper. I bet they build like 1000 of these with the above specs and sell them to the box stores for a cheaper price than if someone built their own on their site. just wondering since you have 2 weeks until it comes out. BTW I was wrong about the 3 ram sticks on the i7 series, that is only in the desktops, on laptops they are still only in a dual config. But you should check out the speed difference and capabilities of a desktop processor, it is off the hook! I bought Quad core Xeon CPU's a couple years ago that couldn't touch the i7 desktops with their quad core and 8 way threading! |

I work for Geek squad, this is a good buy. getting a mobile i7 and dedicated graphics for $1,000 should cover most needs for years (even if they are pretty advanced needs). Good find, wish we carried those.

I'll never spend more than $500 for a laptop.....you need to figure that you will be in the market for another one as soon as the manufactures warranty expires.

I agree with this. I go cheap on TV's and Laptops because they will either brake by then or be rendered obsolete.

see i gues im lucky, ive never had a problem with a single laptop ive owned. Had a dell for 4 years, an acer for 4, another acer for 4, and now this one. All the rest i have gotten from compusa for under 500, so this is the most expensive that I have paid..........and im not real big on dell either, but after getting this thing I can tell you its worth every penny so far.
The speakers are amazing, sound better and louder than an external pair for my desktop. other than me screing up my last one (forgot to unplug it before i changed the keyboard and the next thing i know sparks are coming out the side) DOH all of them still work to this day. So i guess ive been lucky. |

Dell machines are like Cutler. You look at the numbers and wonder why they don't seem to perform better...
Anyways, seems like a solid rig. I just distrust Dell is all. |

NICE Bleeder ... sounds like it was fun. The i7 is cutting edge right now, so you're set for a long while. Get a really good case to carry it around in ... and you'll probably want to get a portable mouse to tote around too. Are they gonna let you spend the rest of the money on software, printer, peripherals, maybe a home monitor to plug into? You should still have a sizeable balance if I remember right.
After about 6 months, I just last week completed building my new desktop, piece by piece. I spent about the same money as you, even though I kept my monitor and HDDs.
The common thread is all the nVidia SLI certified parts of course. They must really have suppliers wanting that certification, even case and power supplies pay for the privilege. Sad part is I'm not even a gamer, which is the whole point of SLI. In fact, this whole project was probably a misallocation of funds on my part. I could've got a pre-made Dell, with extra software and the i7 processor for about $300 or 400 less. But it was major fun, first new one in five years. And it gives me the false, but nonetheless gratifying notion that I am mechanically inclined. |

Once Civ 5 is near completion it will be time for me to get my next desktop. A little overkill perhaps for a strategy game but entirely worth it.

Bought our laptop from Costco.com over a year ago (just before the kid was born, figured I'd never get on the desktop anymore with him running around). If you're a Costco member, be sure to check them out.
