It isn't unexpected. He probably would have retired even if they tried to bring him back. He was close last year and then had a horrible year.

Good cut. Give him a chance to test the market early. He really stunk last yr IMO. The whole interior line got pushed around and rag dolled.

BTW if this is true it shows that we're still a classy organisation giving Casey the option of hitting the market early instead of holding onto his rights. AFAIK he doesn't have any bonuses hitting so it's not an issue of releasing quickly before he costs anything.

Waste of money to pay him in retrospect.

Broncos release Casey Wiegmann and Lamont Jordan:
http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/...egmann-jordan/ Let there be no doubt, the Broncos are changing their upfront blocking scheme to a more physical, powerful style. The change cost Casey Wiegmann, the Broncos’ starting center the past two years. Wiegmann and backup running back LaMont Jordan were released by the club Tuesday. Wiegmann, who turns 37 this summer, has played in 8,936 consecutive snaps, an iron-man streak that began with the second game of the 2001 season. The veteran Jordan was signed as a free agent last year, but plans for his use became diminished when the Broncos selected running back Knowshon Moreno with their first-round draft pick, No. 12 overall. Jordan had been one of most vocal supporters of Broncos coach Josh McDaniels. |

Well I guess that is the first salvo in McDaniels following up on his statement of overhauling the lines. I thought Weigmann was someone we could get by another year with, but its McDaniels' call if he thinks he can find an upgrade.
This is McDaniels big chance to sink or swim though. He's preached the need for better line play and he's going into an offseason where at least two solid guards (Bobbie Williams of Cincy and Stephen Neal of NE) should hit the market, and with a strong OL draft class to select talent from. There is also one of the best DL talent pools in the draft I've ever seen, even for 3-4 types. No excuses here. This is when he's got to go out and prove it. Bring home the talent and put a winner on the field. |

Maybe Olsen is ready to play center, I guess we will see if we bring in Mawae or draft a center.

He was injury insurance who knew the system. Now that Buckhalter and Moreno know the system and Hillis gets a second crack at digesting it we can afford to get a higher upside project we can coach up. |

Has Olsen ever played center? He strikes me as someone we're prepping for RG with Kuper either being traded or moved to LG (where I like Kuper's skill set better anyhow).

Gotta thank the guy for giving us that great season back in 08. I don't think anyone expected that.
Best of luck Wiegs. |
