the Chargers would like to get a running back in return for him, or at least an extra draft pick that would make it easier for them to draft a running back.

Chargers look into trading Cromartie for a running back

We noted a week ago that a rumor was making the rounds in league circles, apparently perpetuated by Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips, that San Diego would trade cornerback Antonio Cromartie to Dallas for running back Tashard Choice.

That specific trade was shot down by reporters in Dallas who insisted there was nothing to it, but ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Chargers do, in fact, want to trade Cromartie for a running back.

Per Mortensen, with LaDainian Tomlinson almost certain to leave and Darren Sproles about to become a restricted free agent, acquiring a running back is a high priority for the Chargers. The Chargers would apparently like to either trade for a veteran, or trade for a draft pick that would give them a better chance of acquiring a running back they want in the draft.

Although Cromartie started all 16 games in 2009, Mortensen reports that he's fallen out of favor with the Chargers, and that they'd be happy to head into 2010 with Quentin Jammer and Antoine Cason as their starters at cornerback

I'd like to see those. I don't remember any Charger posters here saying that. Well, actually I can probably think of one or two that would say something like that.

I've always insisted that Jammer was our best corner. (I think he is very unerrated) Cromartie has the potential to be elite but the guy just seems dumb as rocks and plays with no heart.

I'm a big Marion Barber fan. If the Chargers could somehow swing that trade, I'd be ecstatic. It looks like all the rumors are about Choice though.

Woah, no way you are going to get a Pro Bowl RB for an average at best CB who doesn't want any contact.

I'd give up a 4th/5th round pick for Cromartie, and only if my team was desperate for a CB.

To be fair to the SD fans, Cromartie that year had close to or did have 10 int's like Champ did the year before.

My favorite Cromartie moment was two offseasons ago when he was spouting off on how awesome he was and then when the Boltz came to town Marshall set his first team record for catches in a game against him and all Crow could do was rack up cheap shots and penalty yards on him. That was awesome.

I've heard on NFL Live last night the Chargers would consider trading Cromartie for a RB. I won't be surprised to see SD making a deal on draft day to pick up a good RB...
