Twitter (Vic Lombardi): Doesn't sound like a trade. Another Denver TV station reporting that George Karl will announce a medical leave of absence.

*EDIT* Meant to be sarcasm, because the life of being a Nuggets fan blows. Last edited by montrose; 02-16-2010 at 07:56 PM.. |

It amazes me how grossly unhealthy so many pro sports coaches are. Maybe it's the hours but man... I couldn't think straight if I was that out of shape.
Now I'm speculating... it could be something else... but karl has always looked like he was on the verge of heart attack (especially in the playoffs). |

Like it or not, he's been the most successful coach in Denver in recent memories...

So who is the temporary coach? It will have to be Dantley, the rest of that staff are a bunch of nobodies.

Man, none of the possibilities as to the reason can be good. I hope he's just a little tired and burned out, and that it isn't the cancer issues.

No joke. The dude is a very good coach. No matter that I am a Jazz fan and would love to see the Nugs go into a funk, I don't want it at the expense of someone's health in a life or death scenario.
I was always impressed with how well he followed/supported his son as well. He was almost always in the stands at Utah State when Koby and BSU played there. That would be tough in the middle of the NBA season. |

Neck and throat cancer. He's going to try and stay around the team while he goes through six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.
I wish he's just step away and rest. I had a friend that died from this about a year ago. He had a pretty rough go of it. Best of luck to him. |

Sounds like he'll be missing a few games here and there depending on scheduling of his therapy sessions.

Sad stuff, but everybody keeps saying it's treatable.
Of course, people always say stuff like that and things like "minor, routine surgery" when it's not them. So I don't want to downplay it. Thoughts and prayers to Coach K. |

thoughts and prayers, of course.
Is Mike Dunlop still bouncin' around without a permanent gig? Would love to see him on the Nugs bench....

Also I know Tim Grgurich since he lives in Las Vegas in the offseason and from his UNLV days. He is pretty much Karl's right hand man since he's been on his staff for a long time, including in Seattle. Be cool if he got the interim tag. |
