Default The Orange Mane Off-season (Hold 'em) Poker League

After tomorrow, it's going to be a long off-season, folks.... with only sporadic and mildly interesting sports events to keep our interest. So, time to gauge interest in something a bunch of us have talked about.

Who's interested in putting together a no limit hold 'em league?

Before getting too far into details, I just want to see if we have enough interest or not. My general feeling is that we'd need somewhere between 20-40 people who would want to commit to a weekly tournament (if enough players) ... or ring game if less players. With those kinds of numbers, we could ensure SOME kind of weekly game.

There are now a couple of good options for putting together private games online... either cheap or free. (Software or web-based.) We can get into that later if there's enough interest.

Stakes could be determined. I'm up for anything, but something modest would probably widen the interest level, I suspect. ($10-20 buy-in or so?) Again, those details could be worked out.

A side benefit to getting the league together could be impromptu side games at various times.

I think the biggest barrier would be working out a weekly time. My feeling is that Sunday night would be a good time, though we may run into an east/west time difference prob. Again, more details to be decided if there indeed IS enough interest.

So, let's see a show of hands.

If you're interested, check in... and mark your level of interest. (High: definitely would play every week - Moderate: Would play most weeks, etc.)

We'll see what kind of interest there is, and go from there....

Yea, the OP is just a sketch... but probably something along the lines of a weekly multi-table tourney, with the first few places paid. But, with enough people committed... you always have options. Again, a bigger pool would mean less "commitment," which make these things more attractive. One week we could have 40 people... and the next 10. But, still a game either way.

AK1971 has some experience doing something like this for us here. I believe this has worked out fairly decently in the past.

Yea... and I know there are a few others. Can't recall who off-hand. But, the options for running one of these now are greatly improved... and cheap. So, we'll see what kind of interest we garner.

I think we had about 15 players on Sunday nights at Full Tilt. I play at PS but not sure how they set up private tables. Doesnt freextway have a website with pokertables? $10 to $20 keeps it nice and small to insure the donkeys keep coming back for more punishment. With my big win at Commerce last week, lets bump the stakes to $500!

You won the LAPC? Congrats.

Yea, the problem with full tilt is the rake, and I think you have to set up tables way in advance. PStars is supposed to be easier, but I can't stand their interface. That said, I'd be fine with whatever the group decides.

Check out DDpoker.com. Software is free, multi-platform and has a lot of cool features for what we're trying to do. I downloaded it and messed around with it. Seems cool.... and ultra-basic interface.

There's also hogwildpoker.com, which seems cool... but is just a bit pricier. Would probably cost about $15-$20 to host a game.

Right now, I'm leaning towards DDpoker if this does come together.

BTW, TJ wouldnt be able to play since his state has barred all poker players from the internet. Cross over to Idaho with your laptop and join the fun.

Would love to take part.

I'm on GMT though so it's probably not going to be possible.

Lucky for you guys, I'm pretty much the white Phil Ivey.

From what I remember, we were only getting a few people each week and it kinda fizzled. Depending on the details, I might be interested.

I would join.
I can probably play once-twice a month.
$20.00 sounds good.
It's important to have a good blinds-structure and if the response are very good maybe limit the number of seats available on a "first come..." basis to avoid too long tournament (for us busy people)
I think it's also important to have a nice "chat" function for a "private game"
"Shuffle up and deal"

I think a couple of things need to be in place to help avoid that...

- Regular time so people always know.

- Enough people being committed that half can miss a week, and you still have enough for a good ring game, or even a small tourney.

We shall see.

I would be very interested, I played last time, it did fizzle out at the end but it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

I think NLHE, only. Not that I don't enjoy stud or Omaha, but I think the simpler we keep this... the more likely we are to keep a regular game going. But, that's just my slant. We can work that out later. Also, keep in mind... if we're all installed on something like DDpoker, ring games can pop up at any time.

Im in...we were playing on Full Tilt. Just have to email them about a week in advance to set up a room in the private tab. We had I think like 25 people to start, and then it fizzled.

We were trying to do a points type system.. and at the end of the time period the points winner would win something like a Jersey or something (we never got that far) It was pretty cool though.
