Colts owner Jim Irsay acknowledged Tuesday that Peyton Manning, whose contract will void after the 2010 season, is going to be the highest paid player in the NFL.

Irsay called it an "easy" deal. "It's something that'll get done," said Irsay. "We'll be talking in the offseason." Manning is rumored to be seeking the league's first $20 million per year contract. The four-time MVP has established himself as the league's best player, so it's hard to argue that he doesn't deserve the mega-deal.

On a side note Tom Brady's contract will also be up after 2010.

i'd say by per year average, because that is what Manning's soon to be deal is based on, the 20 million per season average.

Eli just edges out Assmunch. Just over 15 mil per year. According to this article, that was the highest per year as of August 2009.

I'd go with received the largest sum of actual money over the last 3 years.

Dude deserves it, he is in a league of his own, 4000 yards and 33 TDs with Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie pulling much of the load, I don't think anyone else could do that.

Surprised he wasn't already the highest paid in the league. But he probably makes the same if not more from his endorsements, so it probably doesn't bother him.
