Eagles legend Brookshier dies at 78
After he retired, Brookshier announced NFL games for CBS. He is one of seven Eagles to have his number retired. More here: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/p...okshier-013010 I remember him more for his CBS highlight show than anything he did on the field. |

He was an All-Pro defensive back on the 1960 NFL Championship Eagles team that defeated Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers at Franklin Field.

He was Pat Summerall's color man at CBS before he left and Madden replaced him. The pair also narrated weekly highlights for "This Week In The NFL", which was NFL Films' syndicated highlight show back in the 60s and 70s before it moved to HBO. Brookshier had a cheeky sense of humor that came through in quips during the telecast that broke up the monotony of Summerall's endless droning.

I remember him being involved in one of those "racist" remarks by a commentator in the early 80's. Said a college basketball team had a total IQ of 40. Since the team was predominantly black he was suspended by CBS but apologized, the school accepted and he was reinstated the following year. It was like me calling the Raiders team stupid and being called racist because the majority of players are black. The Raiders are stupid!

He and Summarall were the lead announcing team at cbs and did Super Bowl XII . . . I grew up in the philly area and he was everywhere . . . a great player. I know he regretted his off-the-cuff remarks that got him suspended. I hope he enjoyed his retirement days.
